Will there be somewhere after we've arrived to get beers for the long coach journey, or is it a tiny little wasteland of an airport where we'll get nothing and regret not planning ahead?

From memory, Chambery is a shed and a couple of portacabins. Might be a vending machine or possibly a small coffeshop type place. I'd take the "plan ahead" option.

Thanks, a distant memory in my mind agrees with you, but wondered if perhaps it had improved at all, but I fear not.

Never been through there, but it's on the opposite side of our region (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes). ISTR reading an article about it in the quarterly regional magazine and it looked bigger in the pics than Limoges which has a cafe and small shop, so maybe not as bad as the OP is thinking??

Two luggage belts only & a lot of crowds if you're on a saturday transfer... assuming they can actually land of course as it's often closed due to the weather lol

Ok, plan ahead seems to be wise then.

There are a couple of kiosks in the main hall, but mainly flogging tourist tat and the odd baguette/croissant/coffee.

I doubt you'll be able to get a beer non-airside, if you can I would imagine it it expensive.

In my several trips to the Alps via Chambery over the years there has always been a lot of faffing around on arrival getting people onto coaches, waiting for the ubiquitous 'Manchester flight', then the schlep into resort. I just use it as opportunity to get some kip before heading out in resort.

Are you that gagging to have a beer?

Chambrey - use it a lot because it lops a lot of transfer time out of the journey to the alps.

It is, as others have said, quite badly weather-impacted (had some fairly impressive last minute go-arounds there) and there is naff all in terms of arrivals facilities.

I would love to say no I'm not gagging, but I know that the 6 of us will be very disappointed to have a 3 hour coach trip without and 'roadies', especially as it's quite a late landing......so yeah we'll need to plan ahead.

Three hours from Chambery - where the hell are you going, the Pyrenees?? The whole point of Chambery is that its a quick hour/hour and a half up into your destination

Fair, maybe closer to two hours getting to Val T. I assume they'll insist on stopping once en route!

I think there's a couple of vending machines in the arrival area iirc, but we usually breakfast at Gatwick & try & get out of Chambery a.s.a.p as the luggage can take an age to be unloaded & then eat / drink again if required at the m'way services comfort stop mid transfer. Heading towards V.T or Val there's a castle on a hill overlooking the services which where we usually stop.

Annoyingly our flight doesn't even land until about 6pm, we're going to be lucky to get to our hotel before 9 really aren't we.

I can comfortably drive from Chambery to VT in an hour and twenty minutes and I have never known a transfer coach stop en route from Chambery unless to put snow chains on.

Ok good to know, I must be basing that on years ago from Geneva, so maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised.

Haha, not to worry, the fact the weather forecast is looking very good makes up for everything.
