Hello folks,

Planning on visiting dubai for a week in March.
If you have been, what would you do when there?

Understand food, hotels, shopping etc are all great but what about activities.
Just a couples holiday.

In no particular order, these are the things that friends who came to stay with me when I lived there enjoyed.

Trip to the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi (if you have a hire car then you can spend a day in AUH and see most everything there is to see, inc Yas F1 track)
Abra ride across the creek in Bur Dubai
The various souks (spice souk always a favourite)
Dancing fountains at Dubai Mall (think Bellagio in Vegas but more spectacular)
Dubai Museum
A couple of days using the open top bus to get around, hopping off at the stops that were of interest
Dubai Miracle gardens and butterfly World
Burj khalifa oberservation platform (don't bother with the extra cash for the very top level, it's no better!)
If you have the cash then afternoon tea or evening cocktails at the Burj Al Arab
You say adults only, but Aquaventure Water Park at Atlantis was enjoyed as much by visiting adult friends as kids so maybe....
Shooting at Jebel Ali gun club
Day trip into Sharjah (my Mum's favourite Emirate and great for a more traditional day out
Trip into the desert with some 4x4 time, a bedouin camp etc etc - very touristy but everyone who did it, enjoyed it

Hope that's all of some help

Apart from what the others have posted above I found the Frame was pretty decent too.

It basically a giant picture frame that you go inside and can see the Dubai skyline from the top.
Part of the floor turns see through when you walk on it as well, if you don't mind heights.

I debated whether to add that as I wasn't too impressed as a resident and never went there with visitors.... it's probably not a bad stop if you're in that area though - I went for a drink on the QE2 as part of the same jaunt as they're close to each other.

This is pistonheads, so my suggestion is to hire a Lamborghini from Atlantis (around £750/day or £400/half day).

We're flying out to Dubai on the 23rd March and then on to the Maldives on the 28th so we have four full days there.

At the moment on our must do list is Dubai Expo, (free tickets from Emirates and something different), the Burj, (not the top floor), the Gold Souk, (my wife wants a ring), a Dhow Dinner Cruise on the Creek, (sounds romantic and it's our 50th wedding anniversary on the 29th), Dubai Mall, (shopping for the wife, fountains for both of us and if time indoor skiing for me).

I was also looking at a round of golf for me but I think it would be too time consuming and wouldn't involve my wife so would be a step too far.

On the first day or so we'll probably want to do a little laying around the hotel pool to get over jet lag as well so I'm not sure if we'll have time do much more than that, if anyone has got any suggestions for other must sees though I'll add them to our possible list.

I'd drop the dhow dinner cruise, in 5 years I never heard anyone who did one say that it was enjoyable in any way.
Far better to do a normal boat cruise (you get a free one with the open top bus tour ticket) and spring for dinner in a nice restaurant (of which DXB has many)

Top insider tip... in restaurants always be sure to ask for local bottled water (masafi or arwa being the 2 main ones) if you don't they'll bring you Voss or Vittel, imported stuff that will cost anything up to 10x as much.... it's the only really underhanded trick I ever saw being played out on unsuspecting tourists.

I also would drop the Dhow cruise, not a great value for money.
might I suggest for a nice anniversary meal to try Seafire steak house or Ossiana at the Atlantis?
Both are fantastic and the hotel is quite an experience also.

Get a taxi to take you to the various supercar showrooms, pre book to up Burj Khalifa, gold souk with boat trip across to it, shopping malls, dragon mart, desert safari with dinner there was good.

Apologies, it looks like I re-posted this last one by mistake, bit of a senior moment!

Thanks for the advice re the dhow tour, I did have some reservations but my wife liked the idea, I'll talk her out of it and do a regular boat trip with dinner somewhere instead and I'll check out those restaurants later.

I think the fountains and the indoor skiing are at two different malls, Dubai Mall for fountains and Mall of the Emirates (I think) for the Ski. Only a few stops on the monorail though.

Correct, though Dubai Mall was never really intended to connect to the monorail, so it;s a good 20 minute walk from mall to station (MoE is just a couple of minutes)
