Hi all,

Have driven extensively in Europe in the past, Spain, Portugal, France, Holland, etc. and we travel to France almost every year, but now the kids are getting older we'd like to explore further afield.

Post-Brexit, are there any additional visas etc. required to do something like the following:

France - Germany - Austria - Slovenia - Italy - Switzerland - France

Not worried about COVID restrictions at the moment, purely the travel side of things. This is with a view to 2023.

Many thanks!

From what I can see, once you are over there then nothing has changed beyond a "UK" sticker (fk that, I'll be sticking to my old EU format reg plates - I'd be absolutely astonished to get pulled for it) and roaming charges on your phone.

Only difference appears to be the sporadically horrific queues at Dover or Calais.

For this year its all this PCR testing crap to get into [insert ferry port here].

For driving in the EU, your UK driving licence is fine - you do NOT need an IDP.

You do need a green card though, and you do need to have all of your paperwork with you. Driving licence, registration document, green card. If you're stopped (e.g. for speeding) then you will need to show these documents. As far as I can remember this is unchanged from before Brexit.

Regarding the UK sticker - I don't have any nationality indicators on my registration plates, I don't want a sticker, and the boot / bumper of my car are not magnetic. I bought a self cling GB sticker for my most recent trip in September last year. It lasted approximately 500 yds before disappearing over the horizon. I was stopped for speeding later on the trip and nothing was said about the lack of GB / UK sticker. I did get a €90 fine though - but I was quite happy with this as it was a downgrade from a €750 fine which is what it should have been (217Km/h in a 130 Km/h limit). Mind you, having said all of that, I've got a new self cling UK sticker from a different on-line seller and this one looks like it might stay on - so I'm going to use it.

Green card no longer needed - that finished August last year I think. I checked with my insurance before going to France for half term.

I have the GB on my numberplate, I bought some £1.36 stickers off amazon, stuck them to the numberplate - its no big deal really and they are still on the car now (and I used the pressure washer on them)

Main thing is the insurance documents, V5. Of course the triangle too.

Unless you are planning to spend more than 90 days in a 180 period in Schengen zone then you will have no additional complications to think about.

Check if your insurer issues green cards.
Mine LV issues them so I wouldn’t assume that your insurance is valid without one.
I’ve not seen anything about it not being a requirement from last August as posted earlier.

From LV, your insurer, LV is also my insurer

As of 2 August 2021, you no longer need a Green Card if you’re planning on driving in most European countries (including the Republic of Ireland).

As well as the triangle, there's the spare bulbs, hi-vis jacket (in the car) plus whatever else Napoleon Macron has dreamt up in the last couple of years.

Yeah, have all of that (not that you need bulbs anymore!!).

Sounds about the same as it has always been then! Happy days.

Thanks for all of the replies.

2x breathalysers. For in case you get stopped and asked to use one of your own, then get done for no longer having a breathalyser in the car! (apparently)
