I booked up yesterday for two holidays this year, Gran Canaria in June for Nations League, Tenerife in November for the World Cup, what a kick in the balls price wise.

The additional bank holiday in June has wreaked havoc on my bank balance.

Anyone else going this year?

Yes, just looking at booking up at a place in Melonares Gran Canaria where we should have been going to when covid started. We were at the boarding gate at Manchester on 14th March 2020 and fortunately we didn't board as they were turning earlier flights round in the air to come back home, lucky escape. Anyway, just looked at same hotel (Lopasan Boabab) and price has gone up by nearly £350 each for a week half board ! So looking at another option of H10 Melanores Palace, which is a reasonable just over £1500 for the week, end of April. Anybody been there recently with any views on it ? cheers, thumbup

Two and a half years since we were last in the Canaries but we've booked flights and are staying in our friends villa in Furteventura for late October and November.

They tell us demand for accommodation has gone through the roof in the last few weeks. So has car hire it seems... eek

Going to Tenerife at the end of March (been twice before)

Flights were £70, and an apartment at Parque Santiago 3 was £500 for the week.

Bargain for a bit of winter sun smile

Yeah, its a bit more complicated for families this year, especially for June.

For people able to fly Ryanair for example and grab a simpler room its not going to be so bad. The extra June bank holiday has screwed things up as I would guess that some families are going to take the four day holiday and blag 3 days with the school.

That means the Tui flights are slammed (400 per person for a return) into the main resorts whilst Ryanair seats are peanuts.

I could only find two 4* or 5* family hotel deals going for June. Plenty of apartment deals going but SWMBO has ruled apartments out for 2022.

One deal was at the Princess Yaiza Lanzerote (if you book direct from the site) and one at the GF Isabel in Tenerife (booking.com).

The GF Isabel Bungalow deal looks good for families on a budget but i needed a seperate bedroom and living room this year due to the new arrival.

Everything else just seems like its gone mental, the Nivaria want 5k sterling for two weeks B&B, it was 2k for same time in 2019.

Returning to Playa Blanca, Lanzarote in a couple of weeks.
Postponed many times, fingers crossed for this one.

Last visit was January 2020 just before it all kicked off. Had been going every January for the last ten years or so.

Went last summer as soon as rules changed, was lovely and quiet.

Would go again this summer but going to USA I think and Greece in October

Currently sat in the sun in Furteventura, having been here since the middle of January and not due back until March.

The flight out in January was virtually empty, with the aircraft being at around 15-20% capacity - everyone could have had a set of three seats to themselves if they wanted to.

Around town it has been very quiet, with restaurants and bars only busy at the weekends, and many still closed or not opening until evening, or not opening every day.

It has certainly got busier over the last week or so with half-term, although it mainly seems to be European families. Still seems to be plenty of people (mainly twenty somethings) WFH here.

Car hire is either unobtainable or a lot more expensive than it used to be.

Try Costa meloneras, it’s closer to the light Ouse than the H10

We normally go to playa Blanca in feb but giving it a miss this year

The H10's all-inclusive is pretty awesome but its about 400-600 euros more per week than the Riu (dependent on room and size of family), keep in mind there is a banging open-air beach club out the front of the H10 which goes on until 5am at the weekends. I see that as a positive myself but you may not.

The Riu is more family orientated so on balance if it were just me and the missus i would go for the H10 and if family go for the Riu. It will be mob-deep with kids at the Riu, unless you huddle into the adults only pool, which gets rammed as a result.

Cheers for that, we gave up on A/I as soon as we didn't have kids with us. Although we hated being locked up for the holiday, it served a purpose when tied to staying at the hotel with young kids but now it's just me and Mrs Monty we like to get out and sample/support the local bars etc. The distance from the main area was my main concern with the H10 but I believe it's only a 15-20 minute walk down the prom and we aint on mobility scooters quite yet biggrin

Quick update, still no decent hotel deals for June or November, found a couple of places offering 6% off but that's about it.

Had a look at the weather just now and Jayzuz its unusually cold. It's warmer in Manc this week.

I'm in Tenerife (Las Americas) now. Weather is definitely a bit odd. It's a few degrees cooler than average. Yesterday was sun in the morning then cloudy all afternoon. Today we have a big black cloud over us!

Was odd seeing people wearing coats in the evenings though. Must be locals because it's really not cold by any UK standard.

I was in Lanzarote 5-12 March and was relatively lucky with the weather.
The week before was pretty cool by their standards and quite windy. My first day or two was +30mph winds but then settled down to usual breezy 20 mph for the rest of my stay.
Temps were min 16°C overnight and max 22°C daytime. Cool enough for a jumper/fleece in the evenings but sunny and warm enough to sit in the sun all day. cool

For those going after the 20th April, masks will be (mostly) abandoned.

Sadly, they are sticking to them in Taxis, at least for the time being but if i am reading this correctly, no more masks in the airport, gyms, other places. Nightclubs and life music venues are finally off the chain.

Looks like the online locator forms are also being ditched.

Good news, I arrive on 26/4! One thing less to do.
