Portsmouth hotel to see the ships
Discussion
Best view you’ll get is from the Gosport side. I believe Heritage Way and the Milennium Bridge are as close as you’ll get to the carriers without being in the dockyard itself. Not a hotel, but Gunpowder Cottage,Priddy’s Hard has probably the best viewing position. I’m biased as I have a waterfront property this side, but there’s plenty to do within spitting distance of the cottages. In fact, the brewery bar is a 60 second walk.

If staying on the Gosport side and you want to visit Portsmouth historic dockyard, HMS Victory, Mary Rose and Warrior, start at the Submarine museum in Gosport as the shuttle ferry across the harbour is included in your ticket. Only at weekends in the winter though.
The water ferry also runs to and from the Explosion Museum, which is a 60 second walk from the above mentioned cottage. O/P, if you’re considering doing the museums mentioned, try and buy the ‘all you can eat’ ticket, which covers the lot for a year, but is considerably cheaper if bought prior, via the many online promos and discounts.normalbloke said:
