Hi all I find Pistonheads a wonderful resource for knowledge and have made some significant purchases and decisions based on information supplied.

Question In the past we have done a number of summer trips to Morzine and our intention is to resume the trips in 2022.

Last night we talked about Morzine and how we wanted the same but also maybe somewhere different that offers fresh air and activity.

Accomodation would be a large chalet and hopefully some snorkeling!

Could you recommend anywhere please?

I do Morzine most summers in some way or another, often as a week on the way back from somewhere else.
There is nothing more delicious than checking in at the airport in Corfu/Nice/Barbados/etc/ after your 14 nights, and everyone is going back to the UK, but you are stepping on to Geneva for a chase-the-sunshine cheeky week. smile

Your issue:
Alps but snorkelling ??

What you want, is a Greek island, and a villa from what used to be Ownersdirect.com, but looks like it is now vrbo.com

eg, https://www.vrbo.com/en-gb/p8011125?adultsCount=2&...

If you want the Alps, then pick any of the big winter resorts that have summer activities, because quite a lot of the French resorts simply shut down on 22nd April.

How about somewhere on Lake Annecy? Lots of water activities, walking, cycling etc.

We were booked to go to Tignes in the summer of 2020 before Covid struck. That semmed to tick a lot of boxes what with it being in the mountains around a huge lake!

In what way do you want it to be like Morzine? The scenery, the vibe, the food? Snorkeling in lakes is dull (and the lakes are cold in the Alps...), so if you definitely want to snorkel you need the sea.

Yeah. Alpine lakes usually have silty green muck on the bottom.
They drain fully the accessory swimming lake next to the Lac de Montriond in early summer and it stinks and is mucky, but I did find a nice Seiko in the mud a few years ago, still running.

Thanks everyone for your replies I guess the snorkeling is proving difficult to accommodate......so we like the fresh air, the views, the activities of Morzine. We aren't as keen on the prices and how busy it is now.

Was wondering if there was somewhere in Europe which is still relatively undiscovered maybe in Eastern Europe?

Bovec in the kranska gora region of Slovenia fits the bill.

Lauterbrunnen is stunning, but expensive. The Vosges (and Jura - I assume as I haven't been) are similar but lower and quieter. There was a thread fairly recently about the Vosges.

Beaufort sur Doron or Les Saisses. Very French, no baying crowds, lifts still run as it's a popular mountain bike resort. You can enjoy some stunning driving over the Col du Prez and Cormet de Roseland and maybe snorkel in the Lac du Roseland.

It is a really good base for Annecy and some of the stunning drives and passes around Bourg St Maurice and La Plagne.

Sorry for delayed response!

Managed to book a chalet in Morzine for end of July beginning of Aug.

Looking at flying out to Geneva from Manchester and then hiring a car for 2 weeks.

Also thinking I might drive it......save on car hire/flights.

Have an electric car though with a shortish range.....(170miles)

What would you do?

you are close to Manchester.
so it's about 800 miles to Morzine.

That's 5+ full charges of your EV.

A firm no. Unless you want to take your time getting down there and back. Make a plan that allows you to have a charging disaster somewhere and a night in a hotel.
A friend of mine did London to Nice in his Tesla Model X a few years ago, and even he said it was anxious driving at times. But the charging network could be better now.

Say a little prayer to Greta, and fly,

But be careful though, we are out there at the same time (fancy a beer?) and the hire cars at GVA are seriously expensive this year. French side was better. but budget on >£700 for 14 days hire.

Thanks for this! It's the car hire prices that shocked me! £1k for a golf....maybe move the thread around to say cheap car hire Geneva last week of July ....

Beer would be good lol!
