Hi all,

I’m planning a brief trip in Europe in June with some old friends from school. The plan is to land in Milan and drive to Munich, via the Alps, over the course of 3 days.

We would like to hire one nice car – be it a classic car, sports / super car (F-Car, Porsche etc), and one normal car from a rental agency as a chase car (e.g. a diesel station wagon from Sixt) to take luggage etc.

Does anyone have any experience doing this, or any tips on companies that would be able to provide what we’re looking for? I can see the one-way rental being a particular issue / impossible for any boutique agency that rents classic or sports cars. Theoretically I could take another day to drive it back to Milan.

One of the party had an idea that Porsche and Audi do rentals themselves, but I imagine that would require pick up and return in Germany, which is the reverse of our itinerary (fixed due to business meetings either side)

Thanks!

I hope you find something but I suspect you asking too much, what with different country pick up and drop off. The likes of Sixt and Hertz look like they would do something but you'll not get anymore more exciting than a Audi A8.

You can hire direct from Porsche but they only have three locations (Stuttgart, Berlin and Stylt), none of which anyway near Milan. No idea on Audi, I don't think you can hire direct from them.

Yea I thought as much with the one way hire. I could drive the car back from Germany to Italy to drop off if necessary, but of course that increases the costs and I can imagine the rental cost on a classic Ferrari (if you can rent such a thing) per KM quite high! It's 500kms on the motorway, and at say 5 - 10 EUR per KM that would be quite pricey.

How about these chaps:

https://europeluxurycars.com/supercars-car-rental

In the FAQ's it says they do a one way rental option - don;t have any experience of them just found via internet search.

Have fun!

I think Hertz have a few Fun collection cars in major Italian airports, would think Malpensa would be one of those.
I'm sure they would allow you to drop the car off in Munich, for a (probably large) fee.

Don't expect F-cars though, maybe something like a Merc SLC/Bmw Z4 or Jag F-type.

I thought so too, but couldn't find anything decent... maybe just an E Class cabrio? I'll take another look.

Sixt out of Munich airport seems to have some decent options: M2, F Type cabrio, M240I cabrio, C63S, M4 (and cabrio), E63 ("or similar"!), CLS 53, and at the upper end S63 Cabrio.

If all else fails, I'd consider a trip to drive it back for you if you cover the flights and fuel. Genuine offer, subject to the dates etc aligning. There are a few on here who could vouch for me.

We ended up giving up on having different start and end points, and will now start and finish in Munich. Makes it a lot easier. My friend's EA is looking into quotes from a company called Lurento... trying to figure out if they and their partners are legit or not!

We are planning a similar trip in August, do you PHers have any up-to-date recommendations?

The intention is to do an anticlockwise loop from Salzburg via
Freiassing Germany (country 2)
Ljubljana Slovenia (country 3)
Zagreb, Croatia (country 4)
Budapest, Hungary (country 5)
Bratislava, Slovakia (country 6)
finishing in Vienna, Austria

It might be easier to collect the car in Vienna which is where the OH is flying to.

Would like something interesting like a recent Mustang or similar.
