Hire car Mallorca
Discussion
Always go for one of the multinationals. We’ve rented from PMI probably 30 times and have never had a good experience with the local companies.
Record / Goldcar etc look good on the surface but they are bds to deal with. Importantly, though, the queues at their booths can be horrendous (1h plus).
As soon as you get through passports, send one person to collect the bags from the belt and the other person to the hire car desks

See this thread, I suggested 3 local companies that are very good otherwise its the likes of hertz and avis!

Terrys or Vanrell, as said avoid Goldcar at all costs and any price deal which seems too good to be true as it invariably will be.
Others to consider that I’ve used for many years without issue, Hiper, Hasso, Autos Roig but these are all off site so use transfer buses.
None of the above will likely be the cheapest, but you pay for what you get.

Just trying to investigate best site to hire a car from (need a seven seater) for a villa holiday in Mallorca in April. Anyone got any pointers or experiences please with hiring from Palma airport?
I have used these guys 3 times at Palma without any issues/sharp practice. Don't know if they have a 7 seater... Could you hire 2 cars? More flexibility than a van.https://www.recordrentacar.com/en/
As above - Avoid Gold Car. Thieving sharks allegedly.
Just looked - they have 7 and 9 seaters

Definitely don’t go Goldcar...Having said that Europcar tried to shaft me for a puncture!
Europcar = Goldcar.jonwm said:
my advise is don't bother, huge queue then stung for insurance I had already paid for as they don't recognise the UK excess waiver. £200 down before I started the holiday
A minor point, but there's nothing for them to recognise. You bought cover from a third party insurance company that covers you for the excess. You'll always be out of pocket and have to claim it back in the event of a claim. It's not like the rental company will have a list of insurers that they do work with. They want you to buy their product!carreauchompeur said:
Definitely don’t go Goldcar... the fact their daily rentals show up as £1 is a clue that they make money elsewhere...

Pretty standard practice on the island now, unless you take the super duper insurance cover things like punctures/windscreens etc etc are your problem. It’s all in the terms and conditions sir Having said that Europcar tried to shaft me for a puncture!

Take out your own excess insurance. I have global car hire excess insurance including US etc, for claims up to £50k. Max trip length 30 days with no limit on the number of trips. £65 a year for two named drivers.Compare that to the local excess waiver insurance which IIRC runs at €10 a day. And once you mention you have your own excess insurance, the agent loses all interest and is trying to hand you the key as quickly as possible.
Last October I rented from Vanrell as well.
I took out the comfort insurance with them which covers everything and has been pointed out on here it can be a bit of an expensive minefield with others. The pickup is easy from the car park directly opposite the terminal. Up in the lift and the have an informal area just off the lift lobby where you sign and pick up the keys. Took about 2 minutes. You pay the parking ticket on the way out which for me was a couple of Euros and you drop off around the same place and leave the key in the car. Very easy. On the fuel, you just return it with the same amount of fuel it had in it when you pick it up. Our car had enough to get us to Port de Pollenca easily. The car wasn't brand new but it was reasonably clean and everything worked.
The previous year I used Centauro. They aren't on site so they run a shuttle bus which is only a 5 min ride but you have to wait until the next one and with a larger group it could be a hassle. The main thing that put me off using them again was the drop off. We had an early flight out as did alot of others so we were in a large queue of cars to drop off when they opened. In the end I had to be a bit pushy to get the car checked in and to the airport which I found stressful.

This was the most recent thread i could find to bump.
Going in October & Centauro or Vanrell seem to be the best price/well reviewed at the moment. Any other suggestions from anybody?

I'd asked on here but got no replies but their "all inclusive" deal seems to get good reviews all round.
The only negative reviews were from people who didn't take the all inclusive deals and were hammered with the usual local Spanish trick of excessive charges for damage on inspection, otherwise 95% satifaction reviews.
Their "all inclusive" is a bit pricier than other locals, but not when you add in excess protection etc.and is cheaper than similar from the multinationals. It has the added advantage of super fast pick up and drop off, you "check in" online with passport and licence details and you're sent a QR code to open a key box and take the car with no human interaction. Drop off is the same, with no inspections as you're covered for all damage.
