Slovenia is incredible! Why is it not more popular?
Discussion
I have just returned from a trip to Slovenia. I went to hike around and take a few photos, and also because it's cheap and close.
I paid £25 for a flight to Venice and rented a car for £100. I overspent a little on accommodation so I could stay in apartments, but even then was only spending £60-£70/night. The entire trip including food, fuel, etc... was ~£450.
I had a Volvo XC40 which turned out to be perfect for this trip. It's quite big for the super narrow roads I encountered in places, but the rough roads I found it was really good for. My alternative was a small Abarth 595 and that wouldn't have worked anywhere near as well!
Here are a few photos from the trip. Hopefully it'll encourage you to visit Slovenia as it's truly an incredible country that's surprisingly developed and easy to travel around.

Been four or five times skiing and in the summer.
Lovely people, lovely country and cheap- even more so when I first went prior to the break up of Yugoslavia. Even then most people spoke English. Used to stay in Kranjska Gora and Portoroz on the coast. Lubijana is well worth a visit.

Looks very interesting. Which car hire firm did you use?...

It’s fairly limited (Kranjska Gora) but great for beginners/ early intermediates. Although there is one world cup black run. We hired a car one year due to poor snow and drove over the border to Austria- a few place less than an hour away.We just loved the atmosphere, food is very good and cheap and people very friendly. Very Austrian in the way it looks.

For a ski beginner I’d choose Slovenia over Bulgaria every single time

I can’t imagine it’s easy language wise? That would put me off.
Almost everyone spoke very good English. It’s a far easier place to travel than you may think. Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
