Thinking of some much needed guaranteed sun in the next few weeks and giving Gran Canaria some thought.

Haven't been there since I was 15, so just wondering where is best to look on the island.

Basically, nice beach with good places to eat.

Cheers. smile

Maspalomas is the default choice and Meloneras the more upmarket choice on the other side of the dunes.

We went in February and did something completely different. Stayed in a holiday cottage right up in the mountains near Roque Nublo. It was wonderful.

We went to the Playa de Ingles shopping at one point and I died inside a little.

Playa de Mogon gets my vote as nicest resort too.

GC inland scenery is great. Hire a car and go exploring

Went to Playa de Mogan for winter cycling training and really liked the resort and down at the marina there was nice restaurants and bars.
If your into cycling it is epic and the climbs start straight out of the hotel front door and has stunning scenery.

Erm, folks, it’s Puerto do Mogan.

It is absolutely stunning, though, and a lot quieter and less “kiss me quick” than Maspalomas.

Maspolomas never struck me as "kiss me quick" in any way, I found it pretty relaxing with nice shops and eateries.

I`d recommend it every time. I loved the place. Cycling is epic, if you like hills / mountains.

Erm, no it isn't. It's Puerto de Mogan.

It's fairly pleasant, though the restaurants around the harbour and along the beach (that's all of them, then) are a samey as they are so-so.

A bit like the Canaries in general.

How was it ? Looking to book something for April of this year - normally travel to Tenerife, Costa Adeje, but fancy something slightly different.

Been a few times ,usually stop in PDI as its a bit more lively /tacky , we go out of season.
Hire a car from Autoreisen at the airport .. £65 for a week inc insurances for a clio ..no issues

The GC500 was closed due to a land slip so bear this in mind.Take a trip into the restaurants in the caves and also a drive up and over the mountain is worth a day out.

As above that hotel is lovely. Junior suite worth the little extra to get near the pool. The town itself is known as 'little Venice' due to the canals etc. The submarine trip is great if you've kids too.

Sorry, missed this, didn't mean to ignore you. smile

It was quite nice, plenty of decent places to eat and a decent enough break. Would we go back? Probably not.

Far more excited about going to Seville next week. smile

To be honest the Canaries are all about winter sun close to home.

I'm in Maspolomas right now, but set back from the sea front a fair bit. As we're closer to the mountains I've noticed we get a fair bit of cloud that dissipates before reaching the coast, not a problem for us as we have a little one so shade is welcome.

The town itself is not a patch on other places we've been (Portinatx in Ibiza is a favourite, lovely and quiet) so a decent hotel is a must. We're all inclusive and glad of that as there really isn't much in the vacinity.

We went anyway, and enjoyed it smile

We stayed at the Cordial Apartments which was quite pleasant on terms of a family holiday with a 7 year old.

We'll probably stay at the same resort and hotel in the future.... perhaps for a little longer and rent a car for exploring.
