Planning my July road trip and wondered if anyone has recommendations for hotels in Stuttgart for the Porsche and MB museums; also any hotels for the Neuschwanstein Castle?
After those two stops we're heading to St. Anton in Austria (Hotel Montana) then onward to Stelvio via San Carlo Italy (Hotel Mueble Ros Alpina) then Chamonix. Down through Alps Maritime above Monaco, Cannes etc. then Costa Brava and home via Bilbao.
Cheers in advance, any details of museum booking sites etc. will be welcome

For Neuschwanstein Castle the nearest (lovely) town is Fussen.After those two stops we're heading to St. Anton in Austria (Hotel Montana) then onward to Stelvio via San Carlo Italy (Hotel Mueble Ros Alpina) then Chamonix. This is where we stay on our way from the castle to stelvio.

Very quiet yet only 5 minutes from the centre of Fussen. Owners are lovely people.
Hope this helps
Thought about camping?
This is a nice site we've stayed at many times over the years, and in walking distance of the city centre and MB world:

The owners are very friendly - in fact, the last time we stayed there we ended up having to stay another day after getting ratted with the owners on their homebrew plum schnapps the night before we were due to leave, and ending up not in a fit state to do anything that day! They didn't charge us for the extra night, saying it was their fault

You only need take a little dome tent, some thin sleeping bags (it gets warm in July), and a roll-mat to sleep on. Eating and drinking is dirt cheap at campsites in Germany, so not worth the hassle of dragging a stove with you. And most have communal fridges too to keep your beer cold - and never once in all the years we've been going has someone swiped our ale, they're an honest bunch (I can't even put ale in our fridge at home without it getting swiped!
)
But it certainly sounds like you'll have fun in the Jag, some cracking driving roads. If ever you do decide to take the Sportbrake, you have to factor in a trip to Munich. Stay at Campingplatz Thalkirchen, just on the outskirts of the city centre (only about 15mins on the U-Bahn). It's right on the bank of the River Isar, and there are some fantastic walks and cycle routes there (if you were to take push-irons with you), and all the staff there are really friendly and more than happy to partake in a beer or five (there's a theme emerging here...

We did our first euro road trip last summer, and stayed here;

Its an absolutely fantastic place, excellent food, and even has a classic BMW to take a tour in (subject to availability).

neuschwanstein was surprisingly crap i thought. I mean it's attractive to view, and the area is beautiful, but the volumes of people are unreal and it's all a bit disney. I feel sure there are equally beautiful and less well known castles in that region. The countryside is amazing around there, and some of the villages are lovely.
