Hi all,

I'm looking for regular users of Heathrow and/or Londoners.

I am picking my sister up from Heathrow at the end of next month. I also want to incorporate a visit to Paddington station for the Gromit Trail.

So, how would you local chaps, or anyone who knows, do this? Where to park, what mode of transport to use once we're in London etc.

I don't know, could I? I'm a country bumpkin and have no idea about the big city biggrin I'm guessing that is a regular service, if so, where would one park for the day, for not alot of cash, near Heathrow airport?

If it's a weekday, pretend you don't even own a car.
Heathrow Express, or Picc Line to Earl's Court then an Edgware train on the District. This assumes you can park somewhere near Heathrow. Which isn't easy. Some of the residential roads near Hatton Cross are quiet, and only involve something like a ten or fifteen minute walk to the station,
Or drive to Osterley Tube Station and pick up the Tube from there.
If it's a Sunday, and there's no bike ride/sponsored walk/colouring the troops etc. going on you could drive and park pretty much anywhere.

Heathrow express goes direct to Paddington.

It's also the worlds most expensive train journey on a cost per mile basis...

As Claire says, Heathrow express to Paddington might be simplest. Paddington station actually has a car park under it, although with cross rail going on I have no idea if it's open. Drive to Westfield, park there, and then get a tube for there to Paddington is another option.

I work in Paddington, just behind the station, and live in Windsor so I'm vaguely familiar with the likely routes. Of the options above, I'd do Westfield and the tube assuming you have nowhere to park at Heathrow at reasonable cost... Westfield for a look around / shop / lunch might work nicely too.

Drive to Heathrow, pick up your sis outside the terminal, no charge. Drive to Hounslow West and park in a residential street near the station, again no charge. Piccadilly line, change at Hammersmith for Paddington.

Having just looked up what the Gromit trail is, this explains why there's a massive model of Gromit sat on the concourse (from memory) between platforms 8 and 9...

Deff. do something along these lines. Pick up by car and drive to Hounslow (15-20 mins).

I'd catch tube from Hounslow Central, free parking on Brookwood Road or Lampton Avenue, which is 5-10min walk from station. Arguably, a slightly nicer area then Hounslow West and also Hounslow Central falls in zone 4 as opposed to zone 5 for Hounslow West, so you save a couple of quid on travel.

Hounslow is also very close to M4, assuming you are heading back out towards Bristol.

They mean pick up at the drop off point outside departures. Passenger will need to know how to get there from arrivals.

Cheers folks smile

I'll using the Hounslow idea and making a day of it in London. Will I have to deal with the congestion charge either there or at Heathrow?

Should have mentioned, I need to park at Heathrow, Sis has been away for 5 months and doesn't know she's being collected, still thinks she's got to catch a bus to sleepy Somerset smile

Where is there to park in/near Heathrow so that we can meet her when she comes I to arrivals?

I had indeed meant he should go to the drop off point, but that looks like it isn't an option.

There is a short stay car park at each of the terminals at Heathrow where you can park up and leave the car whilst you go inside to arrivals. It is approx. £5 an hour, though if all you are doing is finding her and picking up then imo it's worth the cost for the convenience.

No congestion charge at either Heathrow or Hounslow to worry about. If driving around Heathrow, just be aware you don't stray into buslanes etc as they are pretty hot on fining people!

If you reach near airport early, I'd recommend the Pheasant as a decent pub nearby where you can park up and have a drink/ bite to eat.

"80 Grommit's, 10 weeks, 1 city"

But one of the 80 is in London. Maybe maths education has dropped off since I grew up in Bristol but doesn't 79 in Bristol + 1 in London equal 2 cities...
