Taking a punt and posting in the H&T forum considering.....

I've got a container heading overseas but within the EU and am thinking of loading it up with quite a few bottles of spirit. It's all personal consumption (naturally) and no intention of resale however since we are all one big family, am i going to get slapped with any Duty should an official on the other side not take my word for it?

Cheers

When you say "Quite a few", how many do you mean? "Personal consumption" is the guideline, with "It's for a wedding" being the usual excuse for a van full of lager. If you are going to load a container with hundreds of bottles of gin, they may smell a rat if it gets inspected.

smile And that's the very case here. Could be 20+ bottles so it could be they'll not faff about it too much if I got corroborating info.

Cheers

I used to bring more than that back in my car. I allways kept the receipts just in case stopped so that I could show Euro tax paid.

Got stopped at the Dover control once as one of their dogs had a very waggy tail.
The Officers were all excited that they had captured a big drugs haul or something.
Turned out that their dog realy likes the smell of the German sausages in the boot of my car. biggrin
They didnt bat an eyelid at all the booze as it was my Christmas run home.

A "container" load?. That's one hell of a lot for personal consumption.

Where in the EU? Round here vodka and Scotch retail at around three quid a litre, you'd be better bringing the empty container here first!
