Do Fremont (and the fountains for that matter) at night. The Kiss video is good, if you like their music. Most are on youtube, but you don't get the full effect of a 1500 ft screen, and 500,000watts of sound!

thanks again for all recommendations so far. Take a stroll through Red Rock Canyon

depending on how we cope with the heat in the day we may not get out and about until late afternoon everyday and then finish off the evening around 3am ish.
so far i like the look of all the recommendations especially:
taking a walk down freemont street one evening
shooting at the range
belagio fountains (is this another hotel) is it spelt correctly?
imperial car museum
could you supply a link to the website containing details of Car&coffee meet
Have you got a car?
If so Death Valley is an easy day trip and well worth a look, as is the Hoover Dam which is less than an hour away (opposite direction to DV).
Helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon.
If it's your first time in Vegas it's really worth just wandering into the different hotels for a drink and a look around. Check out the canals in the Venetian, tacky but brilliant!

no car and it is our first time. Booked MGM grand. If so Death Valley is an easy day trip and well worth a look, as is the Hoover Dam which is less than an hour away (opposite direction to DV).

Hoover Dam looks like an option for a few hours in the day.
wife would never do helicopter trip.
agree that some of the hotels look incredible and well worth a look around.
I've added Venetian to our list.
seeing as we only really want to do the casino thing once can anybody recommend the most spectacular to visit.
Quad biking (ATV rides) through the Valley of Fire.
With the speeds they allow you to get upto and the rough terrain you ride on, I have no idea how it's even allowed. The views are outstanding but I guarantee that you won't be taking any notice of them unless it's a designated stop off. Some of the best fun I have ever had.
As others have mentioned, the Gun Store is a must too. Try and get there early as it gets busy!
With regards to food, there is something for everyone. From in-and-out burger joints (
) & cheap buffet deals to some very nice fine dining restaurants.
Oh and try the $20 trick when checking into your room.

The $20 trick basically involves slipping the person checking you in a $20 without the cameras seeing it. Don't worry, it's common and a lot of people do it. When they ask for your ID, give them your passport with a pre-placed $20 neatly folded in next to your photo and ask "Are there any complimentary upgrades available?". Works for me!

Oh another thing, when looking on a map bear in mind that things look a LOT closer than they are!
I don`t mean how far LA is from Vegas etc, I mean that the length of ONE hotel is MASSIVE so what you would think was a 5 minute walk is probably 25 minutes!
And take LOTS of dollar bills for tips (it`s incredibly annoying after a while)
Area 51 could be a good day out / overnight stay too.

^ Good advice that ^. Especially when it's over 100F outside, you don't want to spend forever walking from one end of the strip to the next.
With regards to tipping, if you're not familiar with tipping in the states it's certainly worth having a read online. Waiting staff in the States are not paid nearly as well as over here and the bulk of their wages is made up with tips. I normally tip between 15% - 20% of the bill PRIOR to the state tax being added on. Sometimes I tip more if the service is exceptional.
If service is not as you expected, you don't have to tip as highly and if it's awful, you don't have to tip at all. But don't do what my friend's boss did and outright refuse to tip as 'We don't tip this much back home so there's no chance they are getting a penny off of me over here!".
In bars I tip a dollar per drink and if they're allowed to drink offer to buy them a round. In my experience they really appreciate the tips and make a point of looking after you and remembering your drinks order no matter how large the round is.

We hired 4x4's and drove to the canyon. We then took a helicopter ride eventually landing at the bottom. This is where we boarded a boat which took us part way through. Helicopter was waiting for us at the other end to take us back to our cars. I think it was about $70.00.
This was back in 2004. Oh and I'm fairly sure we were not supposed to take our cars out of the city limits...may want to check.
