I'm taking my two boys (12 and 14) to Reykjavik for 4 days the week after next and I'm trying to decide which activity to do with them as there are so many to choose from.

I've already booked us on the Volcano tour http://www.insidethevolcano.com/ , but want to do one more activity and there are so many to choose from. Options include:

Glacier walking
geyser/waterfall tour
4x4 cross country (but 12 year old gets car sick so probably not the best idea)
Whale watching (done this before)

Can anyone make a recommendation ?

Also we will have 1.5 days in Reykjavik itself, staying in a city centre hotel and there seem to be lots of museums and things to see so any pointers towards the ones worth visiting would be welcome!

Cheers

If they are sporty then the glacier walk, museum wise then the phallus museum will make them snigger. A friend took his kids to the Viking meal which they enjoyed.

Don't forget the blue lagoon - maybe not an activity as such but an amazing sight

^^^THIS. If your flight back is afternoon or evening, do it on the way back to the airport, it's quite close.

And Gulfloss waterfall and the geysers. Whale watching boat trip from Reykjavik harbour.

Iceland is amazing. My boys were 11 & 9 when we went in 07, and we still talk about it.

Visiting the waterfalls will involve a good few hours of driving, but it's very worth it, and you really should do it. It's easy to do on your own, so you could hire a car, and maybe spend extra time going to the south east (eg. Skogafoss, Seljalandsfoss).

Well done on choosing the volcano tour, it really is a great trip! (http://vimeo.com/44977340)

We did 4 excursions with these guys and it was awesome, my favorite would either be the golden triangle & hekla or the one onto the glacier langjokull: http://www.superjeep.is and ask for Ragnar, he was awesome and your boys will love the monster landrovers.

Unfortunately my youngest would be throwing up all over the place , he's a big disappointment to me ! We've booked the coach tour version of the golden triangle as he is (for some reason) ok in a coach ! Also going river jet boating so packing a lot into 3 days !
