Avios question - I'm confused

So, I understand all taxes, charges, etc. are not included and have to be paid cash, but:

Avios needed for BA Club to Dubai - 40,000 Avios (I use a BA Amex card) + £500ish for the above EACH
But, I have a companion voucher to use before the end of 2013 so I go on their website, put the details in (out 1 May 2013, back 11 May), tick the companion voucher box and it comes up with the following:

Total: 80,000 Avious + £1,000ish in taxes, etc.

Am I missing something here or indeed being stupid as I would have expected 40,000 (with companion voucher) + £1,000ish in charges?

Confused.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Perhaps you can't use vouchers and points together, you'd be best speaking to BA's call centre people. Hope you've got a spare two hours to wait to get through to them

You are correct - you pay the taxes for each person but only the miles for one person with the 2-4-1.

The problem is you are confusing the one way cost with return cost.

It is 40,000miles each way LHR-DXB or DXB-LHR in club.
So in your case, 80,000 + 2-4-1 + taxes each is correct for a return for two of you.
If you were doing a one way LHR-DXB using the 2-4-1 it would be 40,000 total.
