Transfers & Baggage
Discussion
Hi all!
Im looking at holidays and there seems to be some good deals available via www.onthebeach.com
However when it comes to tally up the holiday you add baggage and transfers and it adds around 25% to the cost of the holiday.
So im thinking, if i book just the flights and hotels via the website, can i contact the airline directly and just pay for the baggage? and will it work out cheaper?
Also, how difficult is it to arrange my own transfers?
i.e. is there a way round the expensive baggage and transfers fees?
Any help greatly appreciated!

Baggage is only expensive if you exceed the airline's baggage limits. Unfortunately, some airlines realise this so have reduced their limits almost to "carrier bag" limits. Organising a transfer yourself is usually expensive because if you don't use public transport you'll hire a car or need a round trip taxi; which of these you might choose depends on the holiday type and transfer distance. You can always ask the hotel if they offer a transfer service and the price; I've done this many times.

A lot of the hotels from on the beach, have horrendous reviews on trip advisor etc. Having just come back from Majorca with one of their holidays we spent hours trawling the net to ensure the hotel was half decent.
Transfers worked well and we only paid £12 each for an hour transfer each way. Would have cost much more via taxi and at 11pmwas the easiest option.
The baggage allowances/costs are the airlines rather than on the beach so you'd have to pay the same either way.

You get 5kg hand luggage allowance.
If it's hot, pack some trunks, some shorts, a few T-shirts and a pair of flip-flops. If you get stuck, you can buy some more. If you think about it, you wear a T-shirt probably two days. Most people seriously overpack for a holiday in the sun, never wear what they take and end up giving their clothes an expensive holiday.
