I am thinking of taking my 10 yo daughter to NY in Sept with a friend and her daughter. They are staying in the Kimberley Suites, Manhattan (145 East 50th Street) as her husband is working in NY for 3 weeks and his company have arranged accom there. It looks really expensive and I wonder if anyone knows of anywhere else I could try within waling distance of friends accom?
Thanks all.

Does it have to be within walking distance? Staying in Manhattan is expensive and that's quite a posh of Manhattan.

All depends on your definition of walkable really.

I stayed at the Wellington Hotel on 7th, up at 55th, thats easily walkable imho. The hotel is nothing special but it wasn't expensive and is fairly well placed for getting to stuff - central park/time square only a short walk, subway stations just outside on 7th to go downtown.

To be honest you don't need to go right to where your friend is staying - there isn't much over that side, so more likely they will need to come to you rather than the other way about, either that or you both make your own way via subway and meet up.
