Ok, so ive just a little lump sum of cash, and i want to spend it on a holiday! smile

Im looking to travel in september (after the school holidays) i plan on going by my self, (no Mrs Dave currently) i i want somewhere hot and a budget of around £500. im thinking of a package deal. What im after is ideas for destinations? im not well traveled, ive been to greece and france.

Can anyone recommend a good location for a single guy to see decent scenery during the day, a beach in the afternoon and nightlife? id also like somewhere where the food/drink isnt expensive.

Thanks guys!

Well, i actually have some family traveling around Thailand this year, if i can get flights cheap enough, then they can help me out with cheap accomodation etc, ive heard the food and drink is cheap there.

Get yourself over to accross the divide - do something active and charity based.

You will need a reasonable lump of cash but the fulfillment is incredible.

Always fancied the trek to everest base camp or the dog sledding. Lots of lone travellers too.

At some point i plan to do a parachute jump for Help for heroes, but totally un-holiday related.

It has to be some where hot!

Right please don't be offended by this

If you are going alone go somewhere that travellers and backpackers frequent, you are more likely to meet other people travelling alone

Do not go on a standard package holiday alone, it may just be me (and all my mates) but you will stick out like a sore thumb and look like a loner weirdo

Sorry

A few random ones off the top of my head that will be warm in September, have a mix of beaches/culture/good food etc and will be easy to meet fellow travellers:

Morocco, Turkey, Jordan, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos or Vietnam (fly to Bangkok then get there overland!)

Thailand sounds like a no-brainer. It is fun, friendly and lots of other single travellers to mingle with.

It's a small budget.

September is not great, weather-wise, without going somewhere exotic.

Tenerife might suit you - gemerally good warm/hot weather, hire a car and go up into the stunning Mount Teide National Park for amazing views (including at night with zero street lighting) and you have several beaches along the coast and the road to Masca/Buenavista is amazing. Loro Parque zoo is also well worth a visit (all adds to the cost though). Aim to stay somewhere on the south-west side with easy access to the main roads.

I don't know about the night life as I never use it and the Spanish don't start until past my bedtime. wink

I would use someone else personally.

I've used them twice (both times I paid for my own trip), I wouldn't use them again.

There are far better and far cheaper options
Who would you recommend instead?

Although the flights are more to somewhere like thailand, you'll offset to some degree in cheaper accommodation, food, beers etc

Watch out for thoses 'single suppliments' if using a travel agent, can double the cost of any holiday.

I know you've said you've been to Greece but that's a big place when you count all the islands. After college I went backpacking round the islands every year, using the ferries, and never got bored. You can be sure there'll be a room for the night wherever you go, locals used to meet the ferries for this reason, presume they still do and I imagine they'll be glad of the business these days. Plus the weather is perfect in September.
