I've booked a couple of flights to Ibiza in September 9th-14th using some airmiles I had. I've always fancied going, but now realise I dont have a clue about where to stay!
Now I'm 35, I dont want to be anywhere hugely rowdy and am hoping this will mostly be a beach/pool holiday with a couple of nights clubbing thrown in.
Any ideas where to look - even down to town/village? Anything more specific also would be helpful!

Are you after very quiet during the day or 'clubbing it up' away from the chavs?
My faves are:
Playa d'En Bossa - Where I happen to going on the 9th of September (I'm also 35 but it's my out-and-out clubbing holiday for the year - PdB's a place for the clubbers (it's where Space is Located) that the chavs stay away from... The Restaurants are mostly rubbish though!
Figueretas - Nice restaurants, walking distance to PDB (we go there to eat most nights)
^^^^
ETA - My gut feeling is that this would best fit your requirements - Ibiza Town's on the doorstep too, so you've got the option of town/ beach/ restaurants and the better clubs on the island all within easy reach!
Es Cana - A little town that's pretty grown up
If you want ultra-quiet, there's many beautiful little places on the North of the island (Portinatx is lovely IIRC!)

We stayed in St Eulira in April, quite nice and out of the way. Hire a car and get out there and see the beaches. Its about an hour away from most parts of the island.
San Vincent is nice. The drive down to Portinax was a long way down. Cala Bass is lovely.
Watch out when you hire a car you have to pay for a full tank of fuel and use the lot which is tricky on a small island. The buses did look OK and probably less hassle than a car, but in September it will probably be quieter.

Slightly suprised about the full tank thing, though I haven't hired a car for 5 years and I guess it's a recent trend from other stuff I've seen on here!...
It's a shame if you really do have to get a full tank, as (despite the buses and taxis being fine for getting about these days) a day touring the island is one of the most pleasant and best value things I've ever done on a holiday!

Slightly suprised about the full tank thing,
Its rife on all the holiday islands, especially Mallorca. The con is not only do they charge you a rip of figure for the tank of fuel (up to 120 euros in some cases) they only have a full / empty policy hence unless you have the car for 2 weeks its very hard to empty it. There are a few still on Mallorca that dont do this and allow you to return it full and refund the fuel so I'd guess there are on Ibiza as well. Shop around and don't go for the headline cheapest as these are usually the worst. There are a few nice hotels around Cala Tarida- think one is an Insotel. I would stay there and just get a Taxi to where ever you want to go.
Not far from there is a restaurant called Cuckoo- its next door to a small supermarket, if you like steak then this place is a must!! Its a very simple looking restaurant but serves the best steak and Spit Chicken ever!

if youve got a few quid and want to chill head up to Atzaro, http://atzaro.com/agroturismo-ibiza/es/ then make sure you eat one night at Sa Capella. I had one of the best meals of my life there last year. http://www.ibiza-restaurants.com/sacapella/

Mine came via an internet cheapie site, but was actually europcar. We stayed at Hotel Village in Sant Josep. Lovely family run boutique hotel on the quiet side of the island.
There are a number of excellent restaurants within close proximity, Es Bolado in Cala d'hort is a must for seafood lovers.
Sant Josep is beautiful.
Best to rent a car to see the island properly.
