Taking wife and family down to Cannes for a holiday what is the best route down, i will probably like to have at least one overnight stop. Thanks
Autoroute down as far as Dijon, avoiding going near Paris by going East. Then day 2 Dijon to Cannes via the Route Napoleon.Ben
My routine is:
Calais-Reims-Troyes-Beaune.
Overnight in Beaune (Ibis, Novotel etc)
Then to Lyon and autoroute du Soleil (approaching Lyon I always take the A46 bypass. It loops around Lyon and avoids Lyon Central which can get VERY clogged. It takes you back to the autotroute du soleil.
On to A8 signs to Marseilles then to signs for Nice and Cannes exit.
PS: get a Telepeage dongle to avoid toll queues.

Same route as we are taking in July Beaune, via Reims and then the next day down to Castellane via the Route De Napoleon.
Have also invested in a Sanef tag too. I reckon on these motormay munches the time saved is worth it

Thanks for tip on Lyon btw
I'm here at the moment. Lovely as ever and nice and hot!
I brought our car down here year before last and did Route Nap. Was great but I pretty much hated driving here in it. They seem enjoy bumping cars.....
The last few years I've just sorted a Hertz car and I've found it much more relaxing!
