Asked here a while ago about thailand and got some good advise and we have now narrowed it down to Phuket in april. And now we are trying to decide on a hotel.
People we are going with have been to the merlin beach resort which they said was very nice but would like to be a bit closer to the to the town, so if anybody's got any recommendations would love to hear them. Needs to be family friendly and not to push. thanks in advance.

I stayed in the Horizon beach hotel in Patong, which was pretty good. A couple of nice pools, but didn't spend much time at the hotel to be honest!

The holiday inn was next door, and looked good as well.

It's a very long time since I stayed in Patong, so can't help with specifics.
However, take a look at Sawasdee.com for reviews and prices.
I am sure that you realise, you should expect around 6 inches of rain in April, on Phuket?? Koh Samui side, is a lot dryer that time of year.

I have no idea why anybody would want to stay in patong unless they're going to be out drinking and whoring every night. 10 minutes north you have Kamala Beach which is close enough to the action but allows you to chill when you want, less busy beach, quieter etc.

Car hire or taxis cost sod all anyway and you can bolt around and enjoy the decent areas of phuket with ease biggrin

+1, but the OP wanted to know about Patong hotels.
There are indeed plenty of preferable areas, which I could comment on specifically.

I got back from Patong today!, stay with a family maybe not though. Patong itself is mad everywhere there is no quite corner to go and escape it so trying to get around with a family could be a real pain.

I did meet a few families who where staying and they all said the Mercure hotel was really good for families of all ages. Personally I would recommend you stayed down near Karon or Kata beach. Lots to do and all the island tours will still pick you up from then just more relaxed.
