Just read through the Mallorca thread.
Anybody been to Costa Teguise recently? Is it expensive to eat and drink out?
Will be packed with Russian chavs and African 'looky looky' men?
Off there in a couple of weeks.

Costa Teguise is nice enough but there's not much there compared to places like Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca. It's also the windy end of the island and very popular for watersports (sailboarding particularly)and the day we visited, it was bloody freezing with a cutting wind, despite the sun.

You have two conjoined beaches, a few pubs on the prom and some shops and restaurants behind that.

However, we went in February (though the weather was hot elsewhere on the island) and have been there previously in October when it was far hotter and the beaches there a lot more popular. It's been very quiet on the two times we've been (out of season) since (the other time was early May when we had fairly inclement weather for several days).

I'm sure, however, that July will be both hot and busy and that makes all the difference to any resort.

If you can get a hire car then do and visit Jameos del Agua, the Timanfaya National park and El Golfo - the 3 main "must-sees" in Lanzarote. There is also a little museum in Teguise worth a visit (free).

Been quite a few times but not recently. Not chavvy and very family orientated. IIRC there's only one 'Disco'. Personally,I prefer it to Playa Blanca.

This restaurant was always good http://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/Restaurant_Review-g6... and it seems to be keeping up the standard.

If you fancy learning to Surf, head for Famara. The Restauruant at the top of the Volcano is also good and has amazing views.

I went there about 3 years ago now. I'd say the above post is about spot on. IIRC, there is an aquarium that will eat up a couple of hours. The shops are OK. We had a hire car which was definitely helpful. There are some very nice beaches down at Playa Blanca.

Sounds OK then.
We will most likely hire a scooter for a few days and potter round the island.

I've been twice and as said above its a nice little place with enough bars & restaurants. Very windy on the coast. They've improved the promenade over recent years so a decent walk along the coast.

Like everywhere else though, it's suffered due to the economic climate. I have friends who go each year & they have seen a steady decline in the no of restaurants etc staying open. I even think the main disco has closed (I'm told it was last year).

I'm sure you'll have a good time & it's a good base to visit other parts of the island.

Teguise is ok, i much prefer Playa blanca But thats probably not helping much.

Definitely visit famara and have some lunch at El Golfo. The national park is well worth it and just driving, exploring the island is great. The views there are incredible. You never see that much space, light, horizon etc.. In the UK. Dont know the restaurants in teguise but can recommend Casa Pedros in PB.

Oh and on that south coast dont f***k with the rocks/sea. My folks have a place there and they regularly see the police helicopter hovering over yet another rockpool adventurer who has been caught out and swept to his death.

Playa Blanca more up market than Teguise. As mentioned can be very windy in Teguise. Papagayo beaches near Playa Blanca best on the island will cost you E3 to enter and it's a long drive down dirt tracks, which somtimes are planed smooth and others riddled with hire car smashing pot holes. There are five beaches, the furthest two are popular with naturists. Choose which to visit according to wind direction. Timanfaya National Park worth a visit - do the coach trip as well as driving through yourself. La Geria is the principal wine growing area and worth a trip through for some unworldly landscapes. El Golfo seafront restaurants are pretty good but have got expensive over the last few years - worth a walk up to the collapsed volcano and pool on the beach if you go. Lanis snack bar in the Rubicon Marina at Playa Blanca is good value. Pureto Calero marina is worth a stroll round if you like drooling at boats and has good restaurants. Puerto del Carmen is a bit of a dump and although has a nice long beach is often very crowded. Some nice restaurants up on the top of the old town overlooking the harbour at the south end. Essential to have a car and go off exploring, each end of the island are very different in charecter. Cesar Manrique had heavy influence on the islands art and architecture look out for the giant wind mobiles on the roundabouts. You can have a day out in Furteventura just a half hour ferry ride away from the port at Playa Blanca. It'll be expensive to take the car over but worth looking round Furteventura too. As mentioned take care if you go swimming - very strong currents round most the headlands and especially between Furteventura and Lanzarote.

I wasn't in the least impressed with Papagayo. Lot of fuss over nothing though we only went to the one beach to the left of the cafe.

Matagorda just noth of Playa del Carmen is quite a nice area with a massive beach and you can watch the planes fly in and land at close quarters. Again, walking round the perimeter of the airport fence lands you amongst the naturists.

You should also expect to only find one T in Lanzarote. wink

Take some mosquito repellent and one of those things that keeps them out of your room, I was there a couple of weeks ago and when the wind drops the little buggers come out and they are aggressive!!!
