I am due to travel to Mexico in a couple of weeks, out on the Monday and back again on the Wed so a short trip. The most competitive ticket is with United and my company are due to book it in the next couple of days. Unfortunately due to the cost they are not willing to pay for an upgraded seat on this occasion so I thought I would upgrade my seat in an effort to improve my chances of sleep on the way home. Is it possible to upgrade from economy to premium economy once a ticket has been purchased?

In a word, yes.

Once you have the booking made, put the details in on the UA site and it will give you the chance to make the updagrade. The cost can be charged to another credit card if required.

I did the same when I booked to fly UA to the US on Sunday - upgraded to E+ on the return for $99.

Since I'm Star Gold I just need to hope for a bump up on the way out too!

Last year, when flying LH I got upgraded to Business on both out and return legs......very nice too!
