No need for a car if you're staying in Nice itself. Train journey very easy, only a few stops down the line. Thinking of going to Nice for 3 nights with my mum. Is there quite abit to see and do in the day and evening time i.e. we wont get bored will we ?

Nice is compact enough that you can walk most places - it's about 20 minutes from the railway station to the Old Town.
I'd advise against hiring a car: traffic on the airport road into town is very heavy, plus once in Nice, parking is both difficult to find and extortionately expensive.

Nice and Cannes are great as is Monaco especially if into cars, one of the good things about driving to Monaco from Nice is all of the small towns and villages you go through on the way. Great to stop for a drink or to see the beaches, you can also try and spot the locations for different films.
Another option is a boat trip over to St Tropez, I believe you can get the boat from Nice, Cannes or St Raphael, a good way of spending a day.

Although no major attractions, there's more than enough to keep you occupied.
Nice is a lovely city, good shopping, eating, drinking, lovely old town quarter, the flower market is lovely, some great sea-food restaurants down there too.
The 'newer' parts, especially off Promenade des Anglais to the west of the sea front can be somewhat expensive, and at high season, full of bloody rude Russians.
Hire a car for a day, even a s
t-box, as you can have a great drive to Monaco, along one of the three roads - in order of height above the sea - Basse Corniche (coast road, through some lovely villages, not difficult to cut off and see some wonderful coves and some mega-star villas), the Moyenne Corniche (the middle road, some nice villages, lovely sea view) or the Grande Cornich - which absolutely has to be the one to be done. Totally stunning views, you do the Eze pass, and I kid you not, you will never, ever, forget the drive.
Spend a day out and about as above, the rest of the time, just wander, eat, drink, relax. Lovely.

Not the cheapest place and If you do go to Monaco, it's ££££.
We decided to see how cheaply we could do Monaco (very, it turns out). Bus there from Nice, which was fun. Walked as much of the circuit as possible, looked at the cars at the Casino, then a cheap lunch by the pits. Good fun. Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
