Some years ago, on the balcony of room 4, Ermione Apartments, Vassiliki I proposed to who is now mrs k.

Now Ermione is a small, chalet style house at the quieter end of Vass (which means it's deadly quiet at night, disturbed only by the sound of the nearby waves sloshing gently on the small beach), and - well - it is now deucedly hard to book a room there. The problems are numerous.

i) UK holiday operators have not offered package holidays there since 2007

ii) To get there in 2009, we flew to Kefalonia, hired a car for two weeks, drove to Fiskardo, and caught the Captain Aristides ferry to Vass.

iii) In 2009 we stayed at some apartments 200 yards down the road from Ermione, because......

iv) We can't find any contact details for Ermione

The last time we stayed at Ermione, we noticed that the other four rooms were occupied by Czech / Slovenian couples and the departure list at Preveza included Ljubljana, so I have suspected that Ermione apartments may now cater for Czech / Slovenian tourists. Thing is, I've googled Ermione Apartments in both Czech and Slovenian and it's still coming up blank.

After holidays in Turkey and Kefalonia in the last couple of years, we miss Vassiliki awfully and want to go back to the Ermione Apartments.

If anyone on here with advanced internerdle search skills could get contact details for the Ermione Apartments in Vassiliki, I'll be very much appreciated.

My folks have got a villa and yacht in Vlicho and know quite a few of the locals and expats. I could ask them to make a few calls but can't promise anything?

Sorry, no joy - if it was Sivota or Nidri I'd have probably been able to find out. There is another way tho, but depends how soon you need to know. Parents fly out a week on Sunday for a fortnight, if you let me know a bit more detail about where it is they'll have a wander up when they're in Vass and get a number. By the way, there's easier/cheaper ways of getting there now rather than via Keffalonia, let me know if you want some details.

Thanks ever so much for that, as timing is not a problem. We always visit Vass mid to late September anyway.

If it's not too much trouble for your folks, getting a contact number for Ermione would be fantastic. Getting there is easy from Vlicho: just follow the road to Vass, then the signs for the harbour, drive past all the Tavernas and keep going. Eventually, you go up a very small incline past a church on the left. Keep going, and look for a chalet style house on the left.

The owners speak little English, but the son and daughter do.

Advice very much appreciated for an easier way to get to Lefkada as well. PM me if needed.

Thanks again.

We're going to Lefkada next week so would be more than happy to do some investigating to add a bit more interest to a day trip down to the South of the island!

Do you reckon you could locate the Ermione apartments on Google maps (satellite view) and post them up here? This would help visualise where you mean!

We're staying up near Agios Ioannis. We're flying in to Preveza from Gatwick and picking up a hire car as part of the package. Preveza definintely seems the easiest way to get to there nowadays (Thomson, Meridianfly & others fly there currently) as it's a short drive (30 mins max?) from the airport across bridge to the north of the island.

This is our first trip to Lefkada (going to Mousses Villas http://www.simplytravel.co.uk/st/sun/viewAccommoda... we've covered most of the Ionian over the years but this year we have two small children in tow, this seemed to fit the child friendly bill, and appeared to be good value too. I can't wait!

We saw some great apartments in Geni (http://www.ionianislandholidays.com/stella_apartments_geni_lefkada_property_GLSAP.htm) - near Nidri which although weren't too near the beach, had its own pool and mooring (which would mean hiring a boat for the week - great!), and was next to a couple of tavernas. We also saw a really nice looking villa near Poros - http://www.jamesvillas.co.uk/lefkas/poros/gialos-i...

We'll definitely look at these for when the kids are older.

I think it's one of these Prand

Kiteless, Parents are on the boat this time so if Prand can't get a number they should be able to find it fine from the harbour.
As for getting to Lefkada, the easiest way is obviously the flights to Preveza, but prices have been extortionate in the past, they seem to have dropped a bit this year but were over £500 each for a july flight last year. This year Ryanair have started flights into Patras Araxos this year (under 2 hour easy drive on the new motorway up to the coast), currently at under £70 for Sept. When I was looking earlier in the year for May flights they were £18 return including taxes. It's certainly a lot cheaper than via Kefalonia. The other thing to bear in mind with the Kefalonia route is the dependency of the ferries. when we were out in Sept the Captain Aristedes was grounded along with all other Greek ferries (apart from the Meganisi one strangley), after the government discovered they were being run by a Russian organisation, only fronted by Greeks. They hadn't paid taxes for years (why would they if they were Greek) so the govt revoked their licenses.

Prand, if it's your first time on the island you'll love it. Make sure you try and drive up into the mountains, try to get to the phone mast for some cracking views!

Cheers Dienamic - very much looking forward to this trip, a lot of people say a lot of good things about Lefkada so I hope it lives up to expectation!

I'm wondering is this the same place (old article found in Google under Ermione Studios Vassiliki)?

Yup, that's the one. The balcony / patio bottom right is where I proposed to mrs k. In dienamic's google photo, of the five properties highlighted Ermione is third from the left. It's easy to spot as it's the only one built in a chalet style.

Big thumbup as well, dienamic for the travel advice. Much appreciated (and mrs k is currently investigating on her netbook in the other room as we speak).

I'm sure you'll love Lefkada, prand, and follow dienamic's advice: hire a car and drive into the mountains. Maybe stop at a Lefkadian service station and buy a pot of honey from a woman in a black dress. Definitely go to the beach at Porto Katsiki (but only on a weekday, weekends are very busy with locals).

Thanks again with the help, guys.

Katsiki's lovely, but can be stifling if it's hot. For an easy little beach to get to with a buggy have a look at Dessimi/Dessimou. It's just over the end of the lagoon at Vlicho. It's pebbly, a are all but the beaches on t the West coast, but there's a cracking little taverna on it to while away a few hours with a Mythos and some calamari.
Oh, and Kiteless, if you don't have any luck with Ermione, I can get you a good deal on the villa in my profile ;-)

Fingers crossed!

I forgot about the access to PK beach boxedin, and yes it is rather steep. Dienamic's suggestion is worth a look as is Amoussa Bay: very small and quiet but easily accessed by road and you virtually park on the beach. The bar also has a very friendly spaniel-cross who'll nick your bed at every opportunity!

Amoussa

ETA: that's a lovely place you've got there, dienamic, but a bit wasted on just mrs k & I. BTW, she's sourced much cheapness flights to Patras, and I've been looking at road maps from there to Vass tonight driving

It's really easy, never done it from Patras itself but have driven over from Athens a few times. A nice drive over the Rio-Anterion bridge, then pick up the new motorway up to the coast at Amphilochia. Turn left and head over to Vonitsa, then on to Lefkada. The new road has knocked about an hour off the old mountain route. Don't be tempted by the coast road, it's a nightmare- head North then West!

I just want to bump this only to know if messrs prand or dienamic managed to get contact details for Ermione Studios sonar

We have found some newly refurbished apartments on the hill just above the bakery in Vass which do look very agreeable, but booking into Ermione again would be nice although not the end of the world if not.

Cheers
