In my regular travels to London from T'North, and being an honary Yorkshireman I am often on the look out for quiet little spots where I can get a reasonably priced coffee and a bit of piece and quiet for a few hours between meetings to work or pending a train departure.

I thought I would share a few in the hope of a few tips in return.

The British Library is one, free wi-fi, no shouting mobile phone users. The cafe at the Institute of Contemporary Art on The Mall is another, and the cafe at the Kings Fund off Oxford Street is the third. For £65 a year you can join the Natural History Museum at South Kensington as a member and get access to their members lounge with free refreshments. If I don't have much time I use the Novotel between Euston and Kings Cross but that is just a hotel and quite busy/expensive for coffee.

I have previously been a member at the Commonwealth club at Charing Cross but that has gotten too busy to be useful.

The Garden Museum in St Mary's Church in Lambeth (on the roundabout at the south side of Lambeth Bridge) is good for a quiet coffee and, if you are so inclined (I'm not) a mung bean related lunch.

At the top of Drury Lane, under the Travelodge is a little cafe where I can get a coffee AND a danish/croissant for £2.

Fantastic!

Do they let you plug in the lap top, use their wi-fi and chillax?

Commonwealth Club was quite reasonable, and I still enjoy it from time to time. They have an excellent chef and their drinks are reasonably priced (as you'd expect them to be). They do have some quieter lounges which are worth seeking out.

The Barbican is a good place to go for quiet and reasonable coffee. Warm, inside, you can plug your laptop/phone in to charge and there is usually a reasonable amount going on to look at - good to kill a couple of hours between clients. Dunno about WiFi there tho' - I use my 'phone as a hotspot.
