Been told it's likely I'll have to spend around a month in Bangalore in the next month or two for work purposes.

Would people here suggest that I go for any vaccines? I currently have the usual UK lot (tetanus, polio, diphtheria etc) up to date.

Last time I was considering them (Typhoid / Hep A for Thailand) I was told not to bother by a doctor I know due to the fact I was staying in nice accommodation and being relatively sensible with what I was eating/drinking. This will also the case for the India trip (e.g. staying in decent international hotels not drinking tap water, avoiding ice, eating in reputable looking restaurants only). However, I'm a little concerned as it seems more people visit Bangalore (from the company I work for) and get sick than those who don't!

Cheers.

If you're going out of the hotel at all, you really should get the inoculations. Compared to getting Typhoid, a jab with a needle isn't really that bad.

I am going in a few weeks for work and have had the following.

Hep A
Hep B (2 shots)
Rabies (3 shots)
Typhoid
Diptheria
Polio

Did you know that the group with the higest rate of rabies infection is business men on travels for work? Apparently, they get bored in 5* hotels and wander round the nearest market, which is full of animals! News to me.

May as well have them, why wouldnt you? They will all be free and last years if you go back for the boosters.

Contact your local doctors as they will have a list of what to take and when. Quite a few (especially malaria) requirements are not only regional but also seasonal.

A colleague of mine spent a couple of years going out to Bangalore for weeks at a time and never had any special jabs.

If you stay in the 'good areas', you're pretty safe by all accounts.

On the other hand, you rarely hear of people having too many innoculations...

Did a tour of India last year, staying in nice hotels but actually going out and seeing stuff as well. I had all the jabs listed below and malaria tablets. i would rather have them than not.

I was staying in the good areas and still had all the jabs, I'm pretty sure the insects don't choose who they bite based on the area they are in.

I popped into Trailfinders and they did them all for me there and then.
