Looking for a bit of advice folks.

I am looking at taking a Road trip to Europe in August. I need to Start it off though in Valencia Spain, then will hopefully end at the Ring.
I have two weeks to do this.

I have no experience of Europe in general, unless you count beach holidays, so i am fairly clueless at this stage of even were to begin.

So any advice on

1 - Best route from Scotland To Valencia, and obviously the cheapest?
2 - A route from Valencia towards the Ring in Germany, taking in some excellent driving roads, countries?

Not looking for an exact detail, unless anyone feels generous enough, but just a general rough idea, or even some links similar to my question.

Much appreciated.

Hi

On the Valencia up to the Ring bit you coould pootle along the southern coast of France (Antibes, St Tropez, Cannes, Monaco etc) and then head up through Les Grand Alpes. From the Alps you can then head into the Fench Vosges prior to working up towards the Ring. We are 'doing' the French Alps this year and the routes look superb! Have previously been to the Vosges a couple of times and we love it. Bonus as well is that you could visit the Schlumpf Museum at Mulhouse wink

An alternative could be to head across the Alps eastwards into Bavaria/Austria/N Italy and then take the Romantic Road up through Germany (starting at Fussen - which is a nice place to stay for a night or two).

I'm happy to share some route info I have researched if you PM me. As I havent done the route yet I cannot vouch for it but I lifted roads form here and a bikers website.

Cheers smile

To get there the fastest way would be straight down through France, probably down the middle to Toulouse on the A10, or you could swing out to Dijon as it's a better motorway. If you've already driven down from Scotland and fancy a night of no driving you can get a hour ferry from Portsmouth (I think) to Bilbao. It's quite expensive but by the time you think of petrol, motorway tolls and probably a night in a hotel somewhere it could make sense.

Going back, I definitely agree with the above post - southern French coast, Italy, Alps. I once when along through the Dolomites and came out in Austria, then cut across to Munich - blast across the Authobahns to the 'Ring and then home.

Again, heading back to Scotland, and wishing to avoid the long speed camera testing centre otherwise known as England, you can get a ferry from Imujden near Amsterdam to Newcastle. Expensive but it does give you a night's rest and cut out a lot of boring driving.

Thanks Graham, i cannot access my emails just now, but thanks for sending over!!

The Ferry is potentially a good idea, it may just well cut costs a little. I will have a better understanding when i sit and work out exact mileages/roads ect and work out the fuel costs!

Thanks for the input so far guys.

The ferries sound a good idea yes unless you get a little hurlhehe

That way you can save your energies and the car for good driving roads across the Pyrenees; in the Alps; the autobahns; and the Ring smile without too much tedium (its a long haul from Scotland to Spain through France!)
