Hi there,

I'm wanting to do the F1 in June and wanting to make a holiday out of it.

Now budget is very tight so have been looking at package holidays, Benidorm is the one that keeps coming up. I presume that's as horrible as it sounds????? Where else is there to stay?

Any useful advice would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Javea or Denia lie in between Benidorm (not with a very long barge pole, place is horrific) and Valencia and are somewhat nicer places - still quite English though, but nowhere near as high-rise.

My mate has a place in the countryside in-land from Javea and it's 1~1.5 hours up the AP-7/E-15 to Valencia by car - we pop over for the footy.

Thanks for that. I was thinking how bad can it be...... You confirmed my fears!!

Is there enough to do in Barcelona for 10 days???

I think you would be very hard pushed to spend 10 days sightseeing in Barcelona, but you could combine a city visit for a few days with a few days in the nearby resorts like Salou. Likewise Valencia - lovely city but not much to see beyond a couple of days-worth, but you could combine with a few days in Javea/Denia.

Have you thought about combining your visit with a trip to Madrid and travelling internally by train and/or low cost airlines - quite easy and not so expensive to get around?

Note that hotels in the Valencia area will be very pricey for the grand prix weekend and most of the nice ones will be fully booked already.

Wife and I went to Barcelona last March for 4 nights, which was sufficient time to see all we planned. Definitely would recommend the old town morning walking tour which we organisd via the tourism office direct from UK before we went.

Whilst I'd agree one can 'do' the major sights of Barcelona in a long weekend, it's an amazing city with a beach... couple that with going to a GP and I don't think I'd get anywhere near bored in 10 days (although a couple of other excursions whilst that side of Spain anyway sound like a good idea if the budget can stretch that far!)

Personally, after many trips to the Costa Blanca, I have to conclude it is my least favourite Costa with too much traffic. Spent a week in Javea last October and wouldn't go there again as it takes so long to get across to the main traffic arteries. Inland a bit, I prefer Gata de Gorgos and Pedregeur but these are all a good distance south of Barcelona.

For my money, however, Peniscola is the nicest resort that won't cost you an arm and a leg. It's about 110 miles south of Barcelona on the coast and has a fab beach, a fantastic populated "village within a citadel" in the sea (where "El Cid" was filmed)and is perfectly placed to take trips inland to places like Morella and great driving roads.

Getting to Barcelona is easy by the coast or motorway (tolls).

I have found after researching it for my next holiday that going further north means more money especially Sitges and environs though Salou might be more reasonable.

I would rent an apartment in Peniscola and I can recommend the Nerea Residential complex as there aren't a huge number of hotels that I recall.
