For my mums 60th we're taking her to London (She's never been!) to see a show (Warhorse) and do the tourist traps etc.

Anyway - budget is fairly tight due to everything that we want to do so say up to £140 per night if possible?

Would like a central hotel as would like to let her have the whole London experience rather than staying out of the centre and having to bus / taxi / tube in.

This place has caught my eye - looks good, gets decent reviews and is pretty central as far as I can remember. (Its the Doubletree by Hilton Tower Birdge)

http://doubletree1.hilton.com/en_US/dt/hotel/LONTL...

How conveinient is it for theatre land?

Any other suggestions that come in budget, are not horrible dives and are in a good location?

Oh and we're going in September so should have avoided the Olympics rush.

Many thanks!

Near where I work, Russell Square, are the budget tourist hotels such as Imperial, Bedford, President etc. They are all part of a chain. Cheap and cheeful B&B used by coach tour operators. I think the prices start at £80. Only a couple of tube stops from theatre land or a cheap taxi ride.

Russell square is ideal but most places feel central, u will have to get on the tube wherever you are based but it's great and part of the experience. anywhere in zone 1 or 2 would be ok.

I've stayed in Russel Square before when me and the gf have been down and it is a good area.

I did however like the look of the Hilton i've linked to above.

Any further suggestions / comments?

You might like to try the Seven Dials Hotel.

Right in the heart of Theatre land, nice small well run hotel.

Don't forget paralympics still take place through early September.........

Another recommendation is the hotel at Chelsea's ground, Stamford Bridge. We booked in there for a Friday night stay and it was around £115 for a big airconditioned room and included breakfast. Underground parking was bundled in at a small additional cost.

Not very glamorous, but the Travel Lodge which claims to be in Covent Garden (it's not) is almost opposite the New London Theatre (Warhorse), and is very convenient for tubes etc.

It's a fairly hideous 1970's concrete one, but mates of mine got a great deal in Xmas week, so worth a look.

Hi Dan, you're looking a bit East with locations like Tower Bridge.... Not in theatre land.

Take a peek at LastMinute.com as you'll find West End hotels (Picaddilly, Park Lane, Covent Garden) within your budget - their secret hotel function is quite good....

Yeah realised we'd moved out of the origional area a little - but even at the furthest point - The Hilton - its only a shade under 2 miles to the theatre so no great distance.

Plus we'll also want to do the usual sight seeing stuff.

I second the suggestion that you check lastminute.com and look at their "secret hotel" section. Some fantastic deals to be had!

If you want to stay near Tower Bridge, check out The Grange.
Cracking hotel, north of the river and they do some great deals.
+1
five mins bus or cab to theatreland,
St Pauls just across the road
Buffet breakfast with a reasonable sausage.

for the price of that place (it can be 150 a night sometimes) you can get a seriously nice hotel. Please don't suggest that as a genuine option.
