Galway City is a good base. Stay outside the city in the Connemara Coast, say 10 miles westt or in Salthill a couple of miles west of the city in the Galway Bay Hotel.
Clifden, an hour North of Galway, the Abbeyglen Hotel has good offers incl DBB.
If you decide to go send me a pm and I'll suggest some driving routes we did last year in Porsche CLUB Ireland there.

When I read the OP's requirements I intially though of Clifden...haven't been there for years but a beautiful part of the world. Clifden, an hour North of Galway, the Abbeyglen Hotel has good offers incl DBB.

Doesn't meet the sea view requirements but Westport is a very nice town and located well for some great driving.
Agree about Clifden and Westport. Wife and I had a week in the area a few years ago. Stunning scenery and fab weather.
Had an unforgettable day when we went from Clifden to Achill(?)Island for the day(250 mile round trip?)on a hot sunny crystal clear day. Saw otters in the sea, stunning scenery.
The day was capped off when on our way back to Clifden we realised we'd be too late to get dinner back at base so although we were in a very remote part of the country we started to look for a restaurant. Almost immediately we found a fab place in Leenane: wonderful setting, great food etc. They even found a place for us to have a wash and clean up after we arrived! We still talk about this today.
We stayed the week at Foyle's Hotel in Clifden. It was a good base. Clifden is a nice busy town, nice shops, restaurants etc. Clifden is alo the start of the Sky Road...the name says it all!

That's the key! With the right weather it's god's country.....I've been on that coast plenty of times when the clouds are so low and the sky so grey it feels like the world is ending.
If you get the weather something great to do and really memeorable is take a fisihing boat out to Inishkea http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inishkea_Islands and spend a day out there.....the Islands used to be inhabited until the start of the last century but I think mopst of the population was killed in a storm. The beaches are incredible.....the water incredibly clear and the sea an amaxing blue. Stunning. Some great driving on the way there too.........
