Me and my girlfriend are off to Poland for 8 days in April. We're looking to fly to Gdansk, then head to Warsaw and then on to Krakow where we'll fly out. We're looking to stay in each city for 2 or 3 nights.

We're going to get a one country InterRail pass for the duration of the time we're there and get the train between the cities. We're looking to spend up to £1000 all in. My girlfriend will be 25 at the time of travel so qualifies for a cheaper InterRail pass. Flights are about £190 and rail passes will be about £120, leaving almost £700 for other stuff.

Does anybody have an recommendations of places to stay, eat or see? Or just any advice about Poland?

Polish rail travel is very cheap. It might be cheaper for you to just buy point to point tickets, especially as you are just doing two big journeys. Have you compared costs?

You're right. Two Individual journeys will be about £50 for the two of us, thank you.

Hi,

Re Krakow portion of your trip.

Was there last week, brrrrr, also in Dec.

Tried & tested hotels first,

Globus about 45 pounds a night, everything new/clean, 15 min walk to main sq

Kamireiez " " " " " " " "

Wawel our fav, approx 60 pounds a night,3 mins from main sq, all re furbed, good quality rooms

Andel outside railway station, next to large shopping centre, 10 mins walk to main sq, around 95 pound

Tested restaurants:-

Gourmet Polish, Mio Malina, Michelin star, 5 mins from sq, superb esp if you love your game meat, around 50 pounds with drinks

Local Hungarain Balaton, try the vension goulash, must have had half a deer on my plate, must like all your veg pickled thou, bout 20 pounds for 2 with drinks.

Gourmet Int Szara, main sq, excellent, 60 ish

Best sushi Zen, 5 mins from main sq again about 45 ish for 2 with drinks but well worth paying for, my tempura prawns must have been a foot long!!!

Dont go Mexican, tried 2 on various visits, truly appalling!!!

Do try the local Polish cheap & cheerful joints also, hard pushed to spend 20 pounds for 2 & particularly recommend the Russian pancakes with spinach & sour cream, yummmy!!

Trust this inspires you, enjoy now, it's a beautiful city.

I'll second Balaton for eating in Krakow. We stayed at hotel Saski which was a bit faded grandeur, but very central and decent enough.
