Can anyone recommend a place to stay anywhere along France's Mediterranean coast?

Really not fussed where; don't mind whether it's a self-catering place or a hotel, but it must have a sea view.

And, as I've let my directorship lapse, no more than a grand-ish a week in June.

Cassis, just outside Marseille, a mixture from cheap and cheerful to really pretty decent. Spent a thoroughly relaxing week there last September (at the cheap and cheerful end, no sea view, although a decent little hotel). You could try http://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/laurence.en-gb.htm... - sea views and very close to the beach, but haven't stayed there so I can't give any recommendations. Hope you find what you're after.

How about Bandol, mid-way between Marseille and Toulon? I used to go there every September for the Bol d'Or. Bandol is a lovely coastal town, with a great drive to the Paul Ricard circuit, and another to St Tropez, Cassis and the medieval village of Le Castellet.

I've stayed at both of these hotels, right on the beach: -

5* - Hotel Ile Rousse
Fabulous with a great restaurant and private beach!

2* - Golf Hotel
A bit basic and no restaurant, but plenty within a short walk.

OP: The Cote d'Azur is around 475 kms long (Nice to Perpignan). You want to be a bit more specific?

Spent 10 days in Agay years ago and really enjoyed it. No idea what its like now. We camped but there were plenty of hotels overlooking the sea.

Not wanting to be a pedant but the Cote d'Azur runs from the Italian border (Menton) to the St Trop area (i.e slightly further east than Nice and not as far west as Perpignan)....

Indeed. Menton looks rather nice, in fact (and offers day trip possibilities into Italy!)

Anyone been there?

I have a house there (over-looking the Med as it happens). Its less touristy than the rest of the coast. More family less bling.

We don't rent it and I'm afraid if we did it would be a lot more than a grand a week...

Well, you're quite right and I stand corrected. But he did ask about the entire French Mediteranean coast.

I stayed in Menton a few years ago, lovely place with plenty of options in respect of food, stayed at the Etap Hotel overlooking the marina and had a room with a view of same. Very handy place for a trip into Monaco, David Coulthard walked past me while i was sat by the marina there. Also saw Mika Hakkinen driving around.
