Best flight route to Vegas???
Discussion
Afternoon,
Planning a Las Vegas trip in April but having problems trying to find direct flights.
My local airport, Manchester, only has Virgin and Delta that fly to LAS - Delta quoted a 36hr return flight and Virgin wanted £1100 return!
Anyone flown recently on a route that was quick/reasonably priced? Direct would be preferred if I can get them for cira£550.
Not too bothered which UK airport we fly from.
Had a quick look at some of the European hubs but not many direct flights from there either - wouldn't mind a night in Amsterdam then fly form AMS!
Any help/pointers greatly appreciated
Adam

Much depends on your exact dates, flying mid week will be cheaper. If you go with BA you'll only have to change at Heathrow, which is much less hassle than changing in a foreign airport. Mid week fares with them are around £700 return I think.
Brother is a teacher so having to go during Easter hols, 1st-14th April. Flexible inbetween those dates though.Simon Brooks said:
Virgin do a direct for £720 but it still takes 10 hours and you need to drag your rear end down to Gatwick for the pleasure, so £150 more for flight plus the agg og getting to Gatwick and additional travel costs/hotel
I came back on this flight. They tend to use an older aircraft I think, since it's usually full of Stag Doo-ers. The hostesses weren't exactly cheerful, even though I was not drunk, and polite. What the chap said about a quiet USA entry point is valid though...
Do you use a local travel agent and are you restricted to when you can go?
You might find a flight and hotel deal for similar money if you shop around, my wife and I paid just over £590 each last year for a week in December. This included flights with BA (who were fantastic) and accommodation in the Luxor (on arrival we were also able to upgrade our room to a spa suite for $30 which was a total steal).
Worth investigating, at the time we went we were unable to find flights only for this price.

Depends on which airline you use-different ones have different hubs. US airways I think are the ones who’s major hub is Philadelphia, Delta’s it Atlanta, AA JFK, Continental Newark. I’d just go with the cheapest as it doesn’t make much difference unless you want to spend a night or two in the ‘Hub City’. I’ve been to Vegas via New York, and once from San Francisco. So long as the wait isn’t too long it’s quite nice just to stretch your legs or get something that at least half resembles edible food.
Only thing with LA or SF it's a long non-stop flight, but then only about 40 mins? after that if I recall correctly, I only flew from SFO as I was already in California.

Vegas is nice for a limited time and for the 'been there' factor but for a little bit extra time and money - fly to Phoenix, hire a car and then drive to Vegas via Hoover Dam and a night stop at the Grand Canyon.
You get a real flavour of America; the natural beauty and size of the Canyon is simply awe inspiringly amazing, the art deco Hoover Dam is a work of art masquerading as a piece of engineering brilliance (do the tour, very interesting) and then Vegas which is the zenith of the 'anything you want, anytime you want it America' that we love (oh and driving in at night its pretty impressive too).
Done this journey twice now, albeit 15 years apart and with different people but loved it both times.
All IMHO of course.

Do Continental not fly out of Manchester? Try pricing with them via Newark - loads of options on connections and prices should be competitive. If they don't go via Manchester try Glasgow or Edinburgh - plane is smaller but prices are good.
planes are only marginally smaller and less modernGassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
