Going to Australia in holiday in march and would prefer to drive down the night before and stay over night. We are going for 4 weeks so don't really want to leave my car.
looking into renting a car from lowestoft area and then dropping it off at heathrow, then when we get back doing the opposite. Have had a quick look and price was around £140 each way, as I only want the car for about half a day this seemed expensive has anybody done similar or know of anywhere with reasonable prices?

Thanks in advance.

Yep much better off in here instead of the east Anglia forum.

I live in east anglia, I want to hire a car in east anglia and am looking for advice from people who have done that in east anglia. Thanks.

Europcar have the "boomerang" service. An appropriate name for the trip you have in mind.
Their price starts at £89 return, though I suspect that is for the slowest smallest miserable car on their fleet.
You can't book it on-line - you need to ring them.

I think most places charge by the day so you'll struggle to find cheaper. You could probably go by taxi for less than the car hire cost.

Out of pure interest I've just checked that out. A minimum of 5 hours 45 minutes on a coach, no thanks. In fact, anything more than 2 minutes on a National Express is too much time.

Couldnt find much on line as you say so I called Europcar number and they don't know anything about it.

I found this page through Google

http://www2.europcar.co.uk/services/airport-transf...

but it wont let you put dates in for 2011. Maybe its something they have now dropped? when did you use the service?

EDIT - called again and spoke to a different person, Boomerang isn't running until 2012 due to "demand over the festive period". Prices are from £89 return, 'from' being the key word. It'd be £190 return for me. Cheaper to book a taxi or suffer on the train in my case. Was worth a try though.
