So, to give some backround info, me and the other half have been together coming up to ten years, so with the wedding budget being a reasonable sum, we are thinking of having a small service (basically just a civil ceremony) and then having a honeymoon in DisneyLand.

We have two children aged four and five so this would be great for all of us.

Would it be mad to do this?

If you want to, go for it. Your money, your excuse for a holiday to Disney!

I have two children (albeit younger one's 3 and the other 1) and we're going to disneyland in january which will be a handfull, also been on a few family holidays with the kids and OH.
What I'm trying to explain (rather unsuccessfully so far hehe ) is that your honeymoon should be something special for you and wife to be, a family holiday together in disneyland will be great but it's no honeymoon.

Technically we won't get a traditional honeymoon anyway. We have been abroad with them before, so it won't be a suprise that it can be hard work.

We won't get that special time alone, so I suppose it's a reason to go mad and 'do' Disney.

Go somewhere cheap and pay for someone to look after the sprogs, 2 weeks in boarding school will be good for them.

That's my advice.

To be far I see where you are coming from, one thing I'd suggest then is do the disneyland Idea but maybe a month or two after disneyland you and hubby (I'll need to edit that in my previous post biggrin ) get away for a long weekend as a "mini honeymoon" smile

I was thinking a weekend break just a few nights would be nice. Just something simple.

Its your honeymoon - the whole point is you do exactly what you want. If thats what you want to do, then go for it. In your position I'd be tempted to dump kids at inlaws and take off for a long weekend of sin, but hey that's just me.

As much as I would, that's not an option. They could go to my mums though.

It won't be anything big, but a weekend of mischief would be fun!

I went to Florida for my Honeymoon with a 2 year old tagging along.

Really enjoyed it, spent the first 7 days in Orlando doing the usual theme park stuff, then 2 nights in Tampa, a night in Sarasotta, two nights in Naples before a few more days back in Orlando.

Would happily do it again.

We also went to Orlando for our honeymoon in January, spent the 2 weeks doing all the parks and attractions, absolutely loved it.

Good to see that some of you guys have done it.

Tbe fact of the matter is, we have been together so long, the wedding thing is just a formality (children have dads name) rather than a big knees up, let's eat cake wedding day.

I would much rather spend the wedding fund on a wonderful family holiday, sort of like celebrating all becoming one. We had a long weekend away to France for a friends wedding in May, and as much as it was nice being away from them, it felt wrong. I just wanted them with me.

I think I could manage one night, as we do get that chance now and again, and it does us all good to spend a little time seperated. But more than that and I feel as though my arm has been chopped off! Lol.

I think you have answered your own question there, book Orlando for the 4 of you but book 1 night without the kids on the night of the wedding at a nice hotel?

While you are there look into a road trip down to Key West via Miami & back up by Naples/Tampa (3 or 4 nights in total) That's what I'm planning for next year while in Orlando.

Definitely!! The keys were fabulous and really pretty, will give you a chance to chill out a bit - stop at Marathon Key and stay in a beach hut with a hammock on your own beach smile

Then come back up via Tampa and visit Busch Gardens (our personal favourite theme park).
