Skiing - France 2011/12!

Guys,
Wondering if you can help at all....
A friend and I are looking to go for 2-3 weeks over Christmas, looking for a relatively average apartment somewhere in the Alpes. Tignes Avoriaz and Val T have been excellent in the past, but having always gone in a group of 8-10 and getting a chalet, im a bit unsure where to look.
We may also drive over our selves, in which case, flights might not be necessary. Can anyone recommend a website where you can book decent quality apartments/hotels for that length of time, as obviously many of the popular holiday sites seem to have a cap on your holiday duration of 2 weeks.
Any suggestions welcomed guys. Thanks for your help in advance!
Matt

I’d have a good Google or check out sites like Owners Direct who have allot of accomadation in France but less so in Austria/Italy. I’m sure that UK tour operators will be able to sort you something out for a longer duration if you call them. Driving depends on your location in the UK really but with petrol, tolls snow chains it could run you around £400 easily driving from the South. Main advantage to driving is usually you can get extra time in resort vs flying as part of a package etc.
My experience of December is variable conditions, sometimes sunny, sometimes Baltic, sometimes a weeks whiteout. Depending on which resort you choose I’d look at late December unless you go somewhere like Tinges. One year when we arrived at a French resort (1800m resort level) the chaelet staff showed us pics of green fields just a week or so before we landed.
