Right, following on from a previous post of mine, honeymoon is now booked.

3 nights in New York, June 2012 then onto Mexico.

Looking for ideas & recommendations from people who have recently visited New York, places to eat, must do activities. I know its personal taste but some ideas would be good.

Fire Away!!

Really depends on your interests, what time do you arrive? As for a restaurant if you really want to push the boat out with it being your honeymoon, as a package of awesome view and great food this is hard to beat:

I quite enjoy just walking around the various neighbourhoods of NYC soaking in the atmosphere.

Don't take this negatively but if you do a search on the holidays & travel forum you'll find loads of threads on New York. They contain all the information and suggestions you could ever want.

If your doing the statue of liiberty then book 6 months in advance.
USS Intrepid is worth a visit and make sure to try the flight simulators.
Get the NY City Pass on line - lots of good savings etc.
Jet Boat ride on the Hudson is also fun.
Limo transfer from airport is value for money.

We were in NYC three weeks ago.

The revolving restaurant at the top of the Marriot Marquis hotel on Times Square was a great laugh and a bit different from the 'norm'.

Wandering around Chinatown/Little Italy and Greenwich were also particular favourites of mine.

Enjoy it - amazing place.

McCormick & Schmick's on 6th Ave ... very good seafood restaurant, probably the best of the chain.

Staten Island Ferry: free trip past Statue of Liberty, get to Staten Island and run to get the next ferry straight back. Beats queueing for trips to the Statue, then not being able to see much of it when you're standing underneath it!

The two major advantages the 'Rock has over the Empire State Building is

a) far, far less queues,
b) you can actually see the ESB from the 'Rock.

Was there in August for our wedding anniversary meal. Food/service etc excellent, and I'm stil in awe of their communication between the front desk and the bar! Had a booking and mentioned it was our anniversary. Arrived at front desk and invited to go through to the bar whle table was prepared. This is just steps away, and on arrival at the bar, the barman says 'Happy Anniversary Mr & Mrs tvrolet'. I still can't work out how he knew it was 'us'. Ordered drinkies (and had the spirit brands we wanted), perfectly mixed, and then another 'Happy Anniversary, it's on the house'. And at the end of the excellent meal, 'thanks you for choosing S&W for your celebration'. Very very impressed with the service...which of course led to tips that would have themselves bought a decent enough meal. And just round the corner from The Benjamin, which is where we usually end up staying.

Plus the barrier that stops people faling to their deaths is glass as opposed to railings in the ESB.

A tip if you want to visit the ESB- go in the evening- there's usually hardly any queue and the view is often more spectacular than the day, with the city lit up...

Another great tip for the ESB if you want to go up during the day is to book tickets online before you travel and print them off. The extra fee for doing this is not much (can't remember exactly but approx $10 extra for each ticket) and certainly not worth worrying about considering how much you will have spent to get to NY in the first place and you will get back half a day of your holiday by avoiding queuing.

When I last visited there was only one nice day weather wise, so the queue for ESB was 4 hours plus to get up to the viewing platform, then another hour plus to get back down again. With pre-booked tickets in hand we went straight up to the entrance where they opened a barrier for us and we were escorted by a security guard straight to the front of every queue up and down including the queues for the lift, we spent over half an hour at the top and were in and out within an hour in total. Worth every dollar!

This is probably isn't too much help as i cant actually remember exactly where it is, but we went up to a rooftop garden / bar right near the Chrysler building, was basically just a doorway with a queue outside and a (very) long lift ride up.

Once up there there's a really trendy bar in a roof garden, and the view at night is amazing. Im sure there's loads of other places like this, but it was my first (and so far only) trip to NYC and it absolutely blew me away...!
