dalyan turkey any must do's
Discussion
Do a search - there's been a few threads on Dalyan previously.
To do;
Hire your own boat and Kaptan, go up river to the lake for swimming, mud baths, BBQ, etc. Go down river to the beach, catch crabs and BBQ on board, fish, watch turtles, etc. Or go out to sea and visit the caves, islands or the next bay along. I have a mate of many years who has his own smallish boat, who will go where you want and who I trust totally. He will fill the cold box with beers/wine too to keep you lubricated. if you do anything in Dalyan, you have to get out on a boat - the scenery is stupendous. PM me if you want my mate's details - he speaks very good English.
Visit the ruined Roman city of Kaunos and the Rock Tombs.
Hang glider/microlight.
Hire a car and explore, roads are very quiet and lots of lovely places to visit.
Buy knock-off tat at the Saturday Market.
Sakilent.
To eat - my favourites this year where Lavie, Beyaz Gul, Aktas, do not be tempted to try anything from any restaurant that serves non-Turkish food (Italian, Indian, Thai) as I promise it will disappoint!
On the iPad with it's s
tty keyboard, so PM me if you want more info, I hate typing on this PoS thing!
Dalyan's lovely BTW!

Just back from dalyan myself for the 2nd time in 2 yrs, the saturday market is very entertaining, stop and chat and have a haggle, most of the traders have a good sense of humour and appreciate some banter rather than just putting your head down and walking by.
eating out, the steakhouse opposite the harbour is excellent for steaks, there is a small kebab house near the mosque which turned out to be one of the cheapest and nicest meals I had, and make sure you find "Jimmys no name", a very small restaurant with brilliant food.
turtle beach is a must, but as well as going by boat you can catch a minibus from the town which will take you to the opposite end of the beach that the boats go to, and here you will find the turtle rescue centre, if you want to see logerhead turtles this is the place to go, well worth the visit, then crash out on the beach and take a bus back to town when your ready.there are also other destinations that the buses go to, you`ll find the small bus depot in the town square, some trips you may have to book the day before.
and dont forget to wander around the town in the evening and try the turkish ice cream
o`h, dont forget the mosquito repellant

i have been reading sin kov is best for mosquitoes.
tbh im really looking forward to a nice kebab
You're right, although Sinkov is now re-branded as 'Off'- dirt cheap, very effective, available everywhere, just smells a tad!tbh im really looking forward to a nice kebab
As for fishing, you can fish in the lake, on the river, or out at sea depending on what you want to catch. Hiring your own boat as above is cheap and they mostly have all the fishing equipment you would need.
My mate charged us TL300~400 in total per day which covered all day on the boat, going anywhere we wanted, from as early as we wanted to as late as we wanted, and included all the drinks we could consume throughout the day (mucho beer/wine/soft drinks, etc)and wonderful BBQs on board (typically three courses!). That was for five of us BTW.

Just a wee reminder, go to the Visa desk on the right handside first before you attempt to go past the Passport control one.never been to turkey before but have my 2x£10 notes all nice and fresh ready
The amount of people when I was there going upto the passport desk without a visa stamp then kicking off and causing delays was unreal.

Good shout, happens every time we go. Funnily it's mostly the Brits that seem to do it, and it's only ever the Brits that you see kicking off!The amount of people when I was there going upto the passport desk without a visa stamp then kicking off and causing delays was unreal.
On a separate note regarding Dalaman, make sure you eat before you leave for the airport on your return - the departure lounge is by quite some distance the most expensive airport for food/drink I've ever been to (and I travel globally quite a bit). Think £12 for a MacDonalds meal, £3 for a 50cl water, £7 for a 2/3 pint beer, etc, etc. It's not a bad airport at all for getting onto/off aeroplanes - just very bloody expensive!

Another good point! Every food & drink item is expensive, so definately make sure you get something down before you head to the airport. On a separate note regarding Dalaman, make sure you eat before you leave for the airport on your return - the departure lounge is by quite some distance the most expensive airport for food/drink I've ever been to (and I travel globally quite a bit). i had read that elsewhere actually did wonder how bad it could really be but yes sack that £12 for a s
tty burger
and will remember to go get visa first before passport control
flying sleazyjet from manchester so arrive 11:15 pm so id hope teh airport should be quiet at that time
Very much doubt it, but even when it's busy it's quick and easy to get through - 7 times out of 10 bags are already on the carousel when we've got through visa/passport, and finding buses/pick up is easy as there is a dedicated area in front of the terminal where there's plenty of room to manouvre...
