We're usually on holiday around this time but we won't make it abroad until later in October this year. Where's still fairly hot and has lots to do that time of year?
We were thinking the Canaries?

Cheers

Hi matey.
Another place to consider is Mallorca. This below is a quick 'copy/paste' job of a posting I did a while ago for someone else asking a similar question, so sorry if it exactly a direct reply to your specific qu, but hopefully you get the idea.....

"If you like resorts with places to visit and lots to do within short distances and want to be away from the Ibiza/Torremolinos crowds and also want a lovely resort surrounded by forests in 'Spain' then I'd suggest http://www.sollernet.com/indexen.html in Mallorca.
There is some stunning scenery close by eg Sa Colabra and with a hire car you could explore the villages nearby (eg Deia) and then go and look at the areas around Alcudia in the north and down to Andratx and Portals Nous in the south - to people watch in the posh harbours there! Myself and 'Mrs jonscz' have just returned after a great week exploring the place. As I hadn't been to Mallorca since I was a kid (MANY years ago!) I wasn't sure what to expect, and thought most of Mallorca would be like Magaluf, but how wrong I was - there are loads of fantastic places to visit (and loads of great local markets to explore). Loads of 'stars' have homes there and if it's good enough for Michael Schumacher / Catherine Zeta Jones / Claudia Schiffer to all have holiday homes there, then it's good enough for me!"

Just an idea.
Cheers,
Jon smile

Mallorca, even for all its wonderful scenery, wont be very warm towards the end of October. Its also their wettest month of the year with regular heavy thunderstorms.

Depends what you like doing, are you taking kids etc, most importantly budget and duration.

If you want hot as opposed to warm Canaries, Egypt, The Gambia, Cape Verde.

We'll be going for 7 or 10 days I think.
Budget - not really sure to ne honest. Not looking to spend a fortune (buying a house Oct/Nov) but I don't mind paying good money for a good holiday.

Any good sites for holidays? Cheap flights to Thailand (or anywhere else!)?

Cheers

Just DIY mate, peice of piss. I'd personally say that for a week even 10 days Thailand is a bit far to go at around 11+ hours to get to Bangkok then more to fly to a resort. I'd want more time to explore i.e. at leat 14 nights. Caribbean is upwards of an 8 hour flight, think Barbados is around 8.5? Bit more manageable, will cost allot more than a week in the Canaries but also allot nicer holiday experience IMO.
