Hired a Jeep Grand Cherokee, pick up from Vegas airport and deliver it back when leaving.

Venetian Hotel in vegas 1st and 2nd night >
Canyon village + Helicopter ride
Day milling about the canyon
Holbrook via Metero crator, staying in a concrete / Asbestos Wigwam biggrin
Petrified forest then drive through monument valley, hotel just outside MV.
Drive to Moab for friday & saturday night >
on to Capitol Park and stay in a cabin / shed
> on to Bryce National park, day milling about > then Zion and another day milling about, back to Vegas.

Any particular bits to see on my trip?

You could stop for a couple of hours at Valley of Fire park, it's just off the road from Vegas to Zion.

The hoover damn (on the way from vegas to the grand canyon) is well worth a visit IMO.

The petrified forest was interesting, and you cross route-66 which is great as a photo opportunity!

I didn't leave enough time for monument valley, the sun was going down whilst my AWD dodge charger was getting stuck in the sand. You want to drive down into the actual valley, especially with that jeep wink

You'll pass through Mexican Hat on your way up to Moab, another photo opportunity.

Moab is a small place, but we easily spent 2 days at the arches. There is so much to see and lots of walks. Try and get up to delicate arch to watch the sunset - the view is amazing, just be sure to leave 45 mins - an hour to get up there hehe

If you're at Bryce you might want to see cedar breaks also. Very pretty!

Zion is quite small, but simply stunning. You can pass through it in an hour (it's a fun drive, and make sure you give it some through the tunnel for me wink), or spend days there doing some of the walks.

Great info biggrin

I think the Jeep needs to go off road at some point seeing as its a Jeep not a Corvette like originally planned (I left the booking too late). Actually think it may turn out to be a more suitable vechicle.

At monument valley, you go here which is the visitors centre, and then proceed down "Indian Route 42".

Rest assured, you'll be happy you have a Jeep. In fact, it was this day a year ago that i was there - I regret not having spent more time down in the valley... how well... next time biggrin

Do the River walk at Zion Canyon to Wall Street. You can hire shoes and stick cheaply.
Hire a kayak and paddle down the Colorado River. We camped overnight at Horseshoe Bend.
Check where you can get alcohol from if you fancy a beer in the evening. None on indian reservation.
Do NOT go to Baristas in Hurricane Utah.

A Jeep is a good call, my Ford Focus rental doesn't like off-roading all that much biggrin The number of people that have rented a massive RV is amazing though, and it just looks like such a pain to drive around all day, especially on some of the park roads!

I do think it's a real shame if you only stay in places for a few hours though. Places like Zion need a day or two, and seeing places at sunrise (eg. Bryce Canyon) is really worth the effort.

One thing to note is that southern Utah is having a lot of afternoon thunderstorms right now, and the Zion Narrows (river walk) is in places over your chest (this is on the first part of the walk), and the river is running faster than normal. It might be back to normal September levels for you though!

Also, restaurants in/around national parks are awful. Be prepared for bad food. This is the one thing that has shocked me!

The storms are now causing flooding around Vegas. Crazy. I'm sure it should be 100f and clear sky, not massive thunderstorms and lots of rain.

This always happens when i go on holiday for some reason! It's like i'm not allowed a tan :/

Hopefully all will be good by the time you arrive!
