Bloody English Tourists - Ruined our boat trip in France...
Discussion
Just to be sure, I want to clarify I am NOT an Irish Traveller. I am Irish, and like to go on holiday - hence my username.
Anyway, just got back from a French holiday - which was nearly brilliant, except for one experience in France.
We were in a lovely little French village in the Lot valley, and had been there a few days enjoying the food, wine and the local hospitality.
We booked a boat trip to celebrate our anniversary and we were really looking forward to it.
Then, with very little notice it was cancelled!
We asked the local French organizer what happened and he mentioned an issue with some bloody English tourist - some bloke with no sense of humour who kept trying to speak to them in a cod 'allo 'allo type accent.
He said when they couldn't understand him he just kept talking more loudly and said something about "Singes capitulards mangeurs de fromage" - whatever that means.
Anyway, to give the boat organiser his dues, he took us out the next day free of charge, gave us a case of champagne and arranged a free dinner at the michelin starred eatery in the next village.
When I asked 'who is paying for all this' he said not to worry - his brother owns the local Jeep garage and the bill has been paid for...
