Just curious really, we've just booked a few nights here - http://www.handpickedhotels.co.uk/hotels/wood-hall... for this weekend but I know from speaking with them they have weddings booked in on Sat, Sun & Monday. Whilst they've assured me they do everything they can to minimise disruption to other guests theres no guarantees we won't be kept up with noise or overun with wedding guests in the bar etc. We wanted a peaceful spa break to relax a little following a hectic few months but are a tad worried the weddings will spoil this a little.

No link, just a very happy customer, but if you aren't committed to that place:

Doesn't have to be there (though can't be any further north due to distance), there's just so little about at such short notice. It looks a lovely hotel and has the bonus of the spa, our only worry is the weddings.
The hotel mentioend above looks lovely but is booked.

A bevy of drunken revellers would annoy me but then again a lot of wedding parties in the evening tend to fizzle out early after a long day.

That would be a no from me and that is based on how I act at weddings, I can be loud and drink a lot dance a lot and will be at the bar until they tell me to go to bed or my wife drags me away.

Entirely up to you but it will be noisy.

Yes, it would annoy me.

And on the flip side, your presence in the hotel would annoy me if I was getting married.

That's why we booked a small hotel for our wedding and got sole use!

It's lovely but it's also £520 a night, unfortunately my budget is £200 a night.

Yes, did it once (not at that particular country house) - never again.

If you're off to chill out, you don't want some pisshead larky around at 3am.

Yes - I was down at Chewton Glen recently and they had a wedding, and that pissed me off. Loud music, loud enough that you couldn't sit out on the balcony or even open your windows, at the rates they charge, isn't on imho.

Just cancelled it - I've instead splashed out a little extra and booked an Exec room at the cedar Court Grand in York. Still a spa hotel but with the added benefit that they've guaranteed me no noise from the wedding they have on Sunday (small ceremony) and it's also in York so we can head out for the evening should we want to.
I know country hotels need weddings to survive nowadays but it is a shame that they can spoil the enjoyment for other guests.

In my experience, some of the smaller / more successful ones insist that the entire place is booked by the wedding party...

Having experienced a loud wedding party going on into the night I'd avoid it and having seen you have cancelled, I think a justified decision.
