Anybody renewed their passport online?

Mine expires next May and as travel becomes problematic with less than 6 months on it and you get up to 9 months added on to your new one, now seems like a good time to get it renewed.

Looked on the Directgov website which says you can do it all online (they print the forms and send to you, which you send back with appropriate ID) - can't get the link to work though. Is it an old/broken link?

Yes i have done it, all it does is send you the form printed out with the info you have given. You then send all the paperwork off. They are very very picky about the photograph - get it done professionally, it will save you a lot of hassle!

I did it last year; as Kenty says when you do it online they then post you the form mostly filled out, you check it's all correct, attach a mugshot and return. dead easy and I got it back in 10 days(it was January though).

Don't smile! They send you a 'war and peace'-sized treatise about how to get a Stasi-approved photo, most of which is blindingly obvious; don't wear a false beard, don't have a sock puppet, no mooning, etc.

Yes I did this a couple of months ago.

They send back the correct paperwork. All is required is signature & photos.
