Transporter bridge is about 30 minutes away, A19 south.
There's the glass museum place (try and contain your excitement if you dare), a crappy football stadium, a coast line and beach, and errr... shopping in the town centre (Bridges shopping centre).
There's plenty to do in the area, depending on what you want and how far you're willing to travel out of Sunderland (further the better really

)Taking your daughter's age into account my two suggestions would be Beamish Museum and Washington Wetland Centre.
Stadium tour is always worth it. Walk along the beaches. Go to the Marsden Grotto on the road between South Shields & Sunderland - set in a cliff face, lift or stairs to get to it!
Agree with Beamish and Washington Wetlands.
