I`m taking my son to Snowdonia next week sometime, and depending on the weather, we intend walking/climbing up Mount Snowdon, also intend staying overnight can anyone recommend a decent, cheapish, reasonable B&B? It doesn`t have to be near Snowdon itself as i`m driving, so just somewhere to chill after a long day and sup a few beers.
Also apart from amazing scenery is there anything else to see or do there as we have never been?

Have a look at the Royall Victoria Hotel in Llanberis, it normally has pretty decent prices that will include breaksfast. Nothing fancy but I have stayed there loads of times and never had a complaint.

Ideal if you want to tackle Snowdon (though don't take the Llanberis Path as it is deathly boring!) and you can walk to Pete's Eats within 5 minutes to get good, cheap and massive meal after the walk.

Hi thanks for that but unfortunately all fully booked, looks like the sort of place to stay though, saying that an Inn would suit as well

Pen y Pass Hostel? Dead convenient but very basic. If you are doing a few peaks each day you'll sleep well anywhere.

Can't help but love the drying room though.

Thanks as most of the best accomodation is either booked up or expensive i`m going to see what the weather forcast is and if its not looking to bad, i may well camp instead as i have a harly used tent, i`m sure my son would prefer that.
So next question can anyone recommend any good campsites with good facilities ie shower blocks with hot water, and a nearby drinking hole, nearish to Snowdon?

There's a basic-but-OK campsite right opposite the Vaynol Arms in Nant Peris (between Llanberis and the Hostel at the top of the pass). Not stayed there for some years, but it had water and a shower block. Plus the Vaynol Arms does good food and a good pint (at least it did last time we were there 3 years back).

Google the contact details and ring them in advance, make sure they've space...

When we went to Snowdon earlier this year, we stayed at the Y Beuno Hotel.

http://www.ybeuno.com/

Nice rooms, great food and excellent beer.

They have twin rooms on Wednesday and Thursday showing on LateRooms for £85 B&B.

Not the cheapest, perhaps, but, IMHO, well worth it.

ETA: if you book direct with the hotel, it's £75 / night.

If you havent booked your accomodation yet try The Courthouse in Betws-Y-Coed. V Nice with very friendly owners. We stayed there earlier this year for a couple of nights as a base for N Wales

Shame, I suppose they have a bit more demand at the moment rather than at the dead of winter when I like to go and play.

I've camped at the Lyn Gwynant Campsite a few times. Right by the foot of the Watkin Path (most fun Snowdon route IMO) and easy drive to Llanberis and Betws-y-Coed. From memory the facilities are what you need from a campsite and it is right by the lake meaning you can hire a canoe etc. directly from the campsite for very good prices - also has some good cliffs with deep water for some cliff jumping (depending on your son's age).

Downside is that there isn't a local to speak of if a few evening beers would be on the cards.
