Thinking of a holiday in Peru... A Couple of questions.

My wife is a veggie, how will she get on with the food?

Are vaccinations advisable? I have a needle phobia! It would be an escorted tour.

Any other advice appreciated

IIRC a yellow fever vaccination is compulsory, so you may as well get the lot to be safe while you're there.

On the food, it's pretty much meat, with a selection of starch (rice, potatoes and pasta on one plate is not entirely uncommon) so your wife's diet will be somewhat limited.

I spend 6 months in South America about 10 years ago. I was a veggie but gave up while I was there as I tired just eating cheese and potatoes. When on the Inca trail on an organised trek I asked what food the supplied for vegies. 'We have chicken and ham for vegetarians ' was the reply!

I spent 6 weeks in Peru a few years ago.

You have to have a Yellow Fever certifcate, which is a needle innoculation - it also made me feel really rough for a few days - only innoculation i've ever had that has done that!

You also need the other usual ones for places like that, typhoid, hepetitus etc.

Depending on which area you are planning on visiting you may need malaria - its reccomended for the north of the country - the rainforests etc, if you're getting to Lima and heading south I didn't need it.

Rabies was also reccomended - this is a course of treatment - I Think you have to start ti three months beforte you travel - I took a risk and didn't have it. I'm now only allowed out on full moons.

Foodwise - its pretty much as said above - some sort of meat or fish with a potatoe or rice side. Veggies will be expected to survive on ommlettes for all three meals.

Brilliant country though - really enjoyed my time there.
