Anyone got any recommendations for a hotel in Saigon, been told District 1 is the area to stay.

Looking for something middle of the range, not the 5 star places but also not a backpackers. Seems to be loads of mid-range places available and listed in places like TripAdvisor, but hard to know which ones you can trust.

If you want 2* or 3* accommodation in Saigon district 1 they are all around a similar price and standard. One i can recommend as i have used it almost every weekend for the last 5 years its The Thien Xuan in Le Thanh Ton street, Its 3* and the standard room is around US$30-35/night, inc breakfast and ensuite plus cleaned every day. Very safe, honest and reliable staff. They have a website and you can book through there too, its all very simple and easy. Its ideally placed for the cetre of the city so easy to get to all the attractions.

Good luck, if you need any other recommends give me a shout.......

Is that the one I stayed at Phumy? It's conveniently located next to a night club if you are feeling "lonely". Recommended smile

No, he said he didn't want a backpackers- Vy Khanh House is not a backpackers! It's a nice guest house in a handy part of town, the views are obviously limited but you're in the middle of the city...

Haha, so youre telling me that the people in the photos on the website for "said hostel" are not back packers, when "said hostel" is slap bang in the centre of back packer, (sorry, handy part of town) area? Your having a larf mate.

Might be slightly over-budget, but we stayed in the Renaissance Riverside. Great location (by river and walking distance of market and backpacker area), good service, decent breakfast.

"You're". It's a contraction of "You are". And I wasn't having a laugh, nor am I your mate.

I obviously caught the wrong end of the stick so feel free to ignore my suggestion. I went there as a mid-
budget traveller last year but am obviously too "backpacker" for here. In hindsight, Vy Khanh is wrong in this bracket. Meh

Thanks for the suggestions, ended up staying at the Sofitel due to a pretty good rate through my work.

All I can say is Saigon is an awesome place. Was worried about hotels beforehand due to general scare-mongering on the internet, but next time I'll be looking to stay somewhere a lot more atmospheric.

You should do Hanoi if you get the chance. Great place, very different vibe "pop north"!
