I always use my Tesco rewards vouchers for Eurotunnel, I have just rung to book a Calais - Folkestone trip and was told you can only use rewards for journey's starting from Folkestone - no good for us as we are going Portsmouth - Bilbao on the way out!

My question is, can I get away with booking a return journey going from Folkestone on the Sunday and returning from Calais on the Monday without actually using the Folkestone - Calais part of the trip? (It actually works out cheaper this way anyway, £73 one way as opposed to £51 overnight return!)

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Strictly speaking, the answer is no - they use ANPR to monitor whether you have travelled out or not.

Your mileage may vary...

No - they reserve the right to cancel the return if you don't use the outbound. No idea if they do?

If you break the T&Cs they'll charge you the full price return fare. ALl registration plates are recorded with date/timestamp.

Be prepared for LONG delays currently exiting the Eurotunnel terminal in Calais. There are vast roadworks around the area and all departing traffic was last night being funnelled into one lane with extensive tail backs. We were returning to the UK last night via the A26 from Lille. The main "Tunnel S/S La Manche" roads were all closed off and it took an extra 45 minutes to get to the terminal.

Big delays coming through the UK customs point on the French side yesterday.

The lady in the booth explained that their computers didnt want to recognise French passports!

They re-arranged everything earlier this year and I think the new layout seems to have increased the delays - Sunday evening a few weeks ago it took the best part of an hour to get through - its always been bad and now its worse and I don't think its the French passports to blame
